Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Enzo Williams (ranked 1787 p4p, 1939 weight class) and Vanna Phommathep (ranked 250 p4p, 268 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Enzo Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Vanna Phommathep!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, David Hoff and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from Williams. Phommathep does a little dance to reset his feet.
Williams throws a body punch but Phommathep moves out of range.
Phommathep thows a left - swing and a miss!

Williams has Phommathep up against the cage in a clinch.
I was talking to Williams's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Phommathep decides to pull guard.
Williams controlling from the top position.
Williams has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Phommathep looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Phommathep might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Williams haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Phommathep working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Williams manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Williams is working for a kimura but Phommathep is defending it quite comfortably.
Phommathep makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Phommathep.

Our spies down at at Hardcore Island MMA inform us that Phommathep has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Williams has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Phommathep looking to hit a scissor sweep but Williams is one step ahead there.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Phommathep has his foot on Williams's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Williams works his way back into a safe position though.

Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Phommathep swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Williams drops back looking for a leg! Phommathep is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Phommathep manages to kick Williams off! Williams jumps back into Phommathep's guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Phommathep has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Williams can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Phommathep is on top in guard.

Williams on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Williams tries to get out of the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Phommathep pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Williams is keeping the position for now.
Williams knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Phommathep on the ground.
Phommathep slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Vanna Phommathep dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Williams tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Phommathep was well out of range. Poor timing from Williams.
Phommathep doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Phommathep closes the distance and clinches.
Phommathep tries to pull guard but Williams holds him up against the cage and eventually Phommathep drops back down to his feet.

Phommathep has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Williams uses from the top position.
Phommathep is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Williams wants to control from the top but Phommathep keeps moving.

Williams got a little sloppy there for a moment and Phommathep has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Williams has managed to get both his arms back between Phommathep's legs - danger averted.

Williams has gone for a leg lock! Phommathep slips out almost immediately though and dives into Williams's guard.

Phommathep has an Americana. Williams didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Phommathep is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Phommathep hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
