Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Skellington! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Roel Yomero! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Yomero defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Skellington. Skellington closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Skellington lands in his opponent's guard. Yomero is pulling down on Skellington's head. It's preventing any offense from Skellington, at least for the moment. Skellington works over Yomero with some ground and pound from guard. Skellington trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Skellington postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Skellington passes Yomero's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Yomero is trying to get back to full guard. Yomero trying to control here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Skellington is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Yomero has managed to free his arm - good work. Skellington takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. We've been hearing good reports from Skellington's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Skellington throwing shots but Yomero is blocking nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round. Yomero is concentrating on defense, preventing Skellington from advancing position. Yomero tries to roll over but Skellington keeps him under control. Skellington is looking for a kimura but Yomero is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Skellington to get the leverage. Yomero trying to hold on to Skellington's head to control him but Skellington postures up.
Skellington throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Skellington working over Yomero with some ground and pound. Yomero looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Skellington is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Yomero is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
