Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Walt Dykstra (ranked 1379 p4p, 1131 weight class) and Billy Blank (ranked 177 p4p, 145 weight class). Billy Blank acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dykstra ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Dykstra works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

We've been told by Dykstra's head coaches at Doc Dannis Death Squad that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Dykstra uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Blank.
Blank lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Dykstra tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Blank manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Blank shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Dykstra eats them both and turns towards Blank to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

Blank's coach down at CHECKMATE PRIME MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Blank's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Blank is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
