PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Clint Joseph (ranked 4957 p4p, 4822 weight class) and Ewan Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Clint Joseph!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ewan Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Joseph closes the distance and pushes Nelson back into the cage.
Joseph prevents the takedown attempt.
Nelson doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Nelson wants a takedown.

Joseph ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Joseph no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Joseph might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Joseph manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Joseph works on Nelson's body with a couple of short punches.
Joseph has had enough of the clinch but Nelson keeps him there for the moment.
Nelson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Joseph is defending well.
Clint Joseph has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ewan Nelson.
Joseph wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nelson has him pressed against the cage.

Nelson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Joseph swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Joseph looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Joseph thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Nelson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Joseph has Nelson pulled in close to control his posture.
Joseph's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Nelson trying to control the position from guard on top but Joseph is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Nelson's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Nelson wants to pass the guard but Joseph is keeping the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Joseph keeping moving, preventing Nelson from controlling successfully.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Nelson looks to land a right hand but Joseph moved out of range.
Joseph lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Joseph shoots in for a takedown but Nelson shows good takedown defense.
A little jabbing left from Nelson on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Joseph fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Joseph postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Joseph stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nelson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Joseph knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nelson on the ground.

Nelson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Joseph is one step ahead there.

Joseph stands up and waves to Nelson to follow him.
Joseph shoots in looking for a takedown. Nelson tries to sprawl out of it but Joseph keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nelson manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Joseph clinches with his opponent.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Nelson tests Joseph's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Nelson shoots in but no luck this time.
Nelson avoids the head kick by Joseph.
Joseph stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Joseph wants it to stay on the feet.
Clint Joseph has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ewan Nelson.
Joseph leaves Nelson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Joseph is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Nelson can do to turn this around?

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Nelson! But no joy.

Joseph misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Joseph throws out a leg kick but Nelson moves out of range and Joseph only half commits.
Joseph fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nelson changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Joseph keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Nelson's corner calls for a 1-2. Nelson obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Nelson tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Joseph paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Joseph gets a double leg takedown into Nelson's guard.
Joseph has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Joseph stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nelson swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Nelson has his foot on Joseph's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Joseph works his way back into a safe position though.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nelson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Joseph has picked Nelson up and slammed him! Nelson can't keep hold of the triangle and Joseph manages to pass to side control!

Nelson is looking to regain half guard here but Joseph keeps moving and retains side control.

Joseph is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Nelson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Joseph decides to stand up, so the ref orders Nelson to his feet.

Horrible takedown attempt by Joseph or perhaps it was just good defense by Nelson, which made it look bad.
Nelson with the counter takedown but Joseph avoids it easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nelson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Nelson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Joseph.
Joseph stops a takedown attempt from Nelson.

Nelson struggles to land a body shot inside as Joseph controls his hands.
Nelson misses with a hook to the ribs.
Nelson tries a knee to the head but Joseph blocks it.
Nelson wants a takedown.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Nelson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Joseph is defending well for now.
Joseph fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Nelson has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Joseph regains guard immediately.

Joseph kicks Nelson off and gets to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Clint Joseph will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Joseph shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nelson's guard.

Nelson has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Joseph doesn't defend quickly enough and Nelson has managed to lock this one up! Can Joseph escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Nelson on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:25 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Ewan Nelson!
