Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyle Gill (ranked 6120 p4p, 6710 weight class) and John Wilford (ranked 588 p4p, 615 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyle Gill!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Wilford!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilford tries to clinch but Gill moves out of range.
Wilford misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Gill could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Wilford closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gill circles away.
Wilford keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Gill.
Wilford is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Gill misses with a combination

so Wilford counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Wilford is fighting to break Gill's control of his arms but Gill is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Gill has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wilford can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilford postures up in Gill's guard and throws a big left but Gill blocks it.

Gill wants to sweep but no luck.
Gill might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gill is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gill wants to work for an arm triangle but Wilford is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gill wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wilford keeps working.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Gill is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Wilford striking off his back but it's not causing Gill any problems.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gill decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wilford, up you get!
A looping hook to the body misses from Wilford. Gill does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gill throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Wilford's waist but Wilford gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gill off to one side.

Wilford swings away with a leg kick that misses.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Lyle Gill seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

And an attempted straight right on the counter from Wilford! But no joy.

Gill throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wilford was covering up waiting for the punch and Gill finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Wilford is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Gill is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Wilford is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gill defends well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wilford pulls Gill in close to prevent any damage.
Gill has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Wilford is proving hard to escape from.
Wilford wants to hit a sweep here but Gill passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wilford there!

Lyle Gill overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Wilford is bucking up trying to escape but Gill cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Wilford is looking to improve his position but Gill isn't that keen on the idea.

Gill is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Wilford is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Wilford tries to hold on but Gill postures up.
Gill takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
