Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Christian Mathers (ranked 5511 p4p, 6176 weight class) and Alvey Kullina (ranked 425 p4p, 443 weight class). Alvey Kullina told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Christian Mathers! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alvey Kullina! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mathers circles away from the clinch attempt.
Mathers shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mathers was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Mathers knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kullina on the ground. Mathers controlling the position. Mathers decides to stand up, so the ref orders Kullina to his feet. Mathers throws a leg kick and Kullina counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Mathers! Mathers throws Kullina to one side and escapes! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Mathers throws a sloppy head kick and Kullina moves out of range easily. Kullina drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Mathers defends it well. Mathers is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Kullina's half guard. Kullina makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
That's one minute gone in the round. Kullina fails with the takedown and Mathers holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Kullina is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Mathers pulls him back up using the underhooks. Mathers softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Mathers has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Kullina clear over his head and slammed him to the mat! Kullina is trying escape back to his feet. He turns into his opponent's guard and eventually finds his way back to his feet. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Mathers just misses with a punch to the body.
Kullina has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight. Mathers circles away from the clinch attempt and Mathers counters with a single leg into guard. Kullina didn't expect that. Mathers sitting in guard, not really doing much.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kullina has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Mathers is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Kullina. Kullina is looking for a sweep. A lull in the action here as Mathers stalls from top position. Mathers's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mathers tries to advance to mount but can't. Kullina tries to bench press Mathers off him but Mathers keeps the position. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Kullina is trying to buck Mathers off. Mathers scoring with punches and elbows. Kullina is trying to buck Mathers off. Mathers decides to take the fight back to the feet. Kullina looks for a takedown but Mathers sprawls well. Christian Mathers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alvey Kullina.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mathers stuffs the takedown attempt from Kullina. Kullina gets slowly back to his feet. Mathers closes the distance and pushes Kullina back into the cage. Kullina has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mathers after a bit of a struggle. Kullina is trying to pull guard but Mathers has him pressed against the cage. Mathers has picked Kullina up - he's going for a ride! Mathers dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Mathers is figuring out what he wants to do next. Mathers slips a nice elbow through Kullina's hands, connecting with Kullina's forehead. Mathers looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Mathers is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kullina doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mathers. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Christian Mathers dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Mathers rushes Kullina and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Mathers lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Mathers gets to his feet - back to striking we go! A decent looking body kick lands there for Mathers. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mathers looks for the body kick but Kullina saw that one coming. Kullina swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Mathers forces Kullina back against the cage and clinches. Mathers manages to break the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mathers feints and as Kullina raises his hands in defense, Mathers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Kullina looking for a guillotine here but Mathers defends easily.
Christian Mathers overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mathers slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Kullina has an active guard here but Mathers has managed to pass into half guard.
Kullina kicks off Mathers and gets to his feet. Mathers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kullina can do to turn this around?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kullina fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Kullina gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Mathers to score an easy takedown into full guard. Kullina escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mathers gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mathers tries to free his leg and advance position but Kullina is retaining full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mathers is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Mathers postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Mathers is pushing down on Kullina's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kullina is fighting to maintain full guard but Mathers has managed to sneak the leg through. Mathers lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Mathers is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Mathers works his way into full mount! Kullina is trying to stand.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mathers connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Kullina can't escape the position.
Mathers with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
You get the feeling that Kullina really doesn't like being in this position too much.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Mathers with good strikes from the mount here! Kullina is in a horrible position here. Mathers smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Kullina is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Christian Mathers dominated that second round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round! Mathers lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Kullina wants to clinch but Mathers slips to the side and Mathers counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Kullina! Kullina trying to remain calm as Mathers controls from the top position. Kullina tries to bench press Mathers off him but Mathers keeps the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mathers controlling the position from side mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mathers works to advance to full mount. Kullina defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Kullina is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Mathers pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mathers looking to control and managing it successfully. Mathers stands up from mount. Strange move. We've been told by Mathers's head coaches at JAG Battle Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kullina throws a nice looking combination but Mathers bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Mathers tries a head kick but it misses.
Mathers gets a double leg takedown into Kullina's guard. Mathers drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Kullina manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Mathers has Kullina in his guard. Mathers wants to sweep but no luck. Kullina drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mathers looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mathers looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mathers!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mathers lands a nice forearm strike.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mathers controlling from side mount. Mathers seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Kullina for as long as he can get away with. Kullina taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mathers controls the position from side control. Kullina throws Mathers to one side and escapes! Kullina has his takedown stuffed and Mathers holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Mathers ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Mathers no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Mathers looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that's the end of the fight! Christian Mathers showed his dominance in that final round. Well Mathers has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
