PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Quintet Tarantino (ranked 1964 p4p, 2029 weight class) and Alec Wolfe (ranked 254 p4p, 281 weight class). Alec Wolfe told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Quintet Tarantino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alec Wolfe!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, John Roberts and Bruno Lombardi.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wolfe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Tarantino closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Tarantino tries to clinch there but Wolfe circles away.
Wolfe walks into a stiff left hand from Tarantino.
Tarantino swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wolfe bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

It looks like Quintet Tarantino has been cut.
Tarantino misses with the combination.
Wolfe takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Nice defenses there by Tarantino.
Tarantino tries to clinch up.
Tarantino misses with a shot to the body
and Wolfe counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Tarantino cracks Wolfe with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wolfe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Tarantino moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Tarantino throws a body punch but Wolfe moves out of range.
Wolfe looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Wolfe stuffs the takedown attempt from Tarantino. Tarantino gets slowly back to his feet.

Wolfe throws a shot to the body.
Tarantino has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Wolfe slips a straight right by Tarantino.
Tarantino drops his hands momentarily and Wolfe takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Wolfe swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Wolfe fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
A telegraphed right hand from Wolfe misses the target.
Tarantino pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Wolfe throws a series of punches but Tarantino moves out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Tarantino misses the target.
Tarantino tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wolfe sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Tarantino somewhat.

Tarantino ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Wolfe moves away.
Tarantino shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wolfe as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Quintet Tarantino. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wolfe leaves Tarantino with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Tarantino fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Wolfe sprawls well initially but Tarantino persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Wolfe told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Wolfe is looking to escape.
Tarantino is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Tarantino wants to pass the guard but Wolfe is keeping the position.

Wolfe escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Tarantino gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Wolfe looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Tarantino has picked Wolfe up and slammed him! Wolfe can't keep hold of the triangle and Tarantino manages to pass to side control!

Wolfe sneaks back into half guard.

Tarantino seems to be looking for submissions.
Wolfe is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Tarantino scores with a couple of nice shots.
Wolfe is trying to stand up here but Tarantino is controlling him well.
Tarantino trying to mount his opponent but Wolfe defends it.
Tarantino wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wolfe keeps working.
Tarantino is looking to advance position but Wolfe won't allow it.
Tarantino seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wolfe does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tarantino wants to work for an arm triangle but Wolfe is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Wolfe moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Tarantino throws an elbow that misses. Wolfe uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Tarantino's guard. Nice move by Wolfe!

Tarantino looking for a sweep. Not yet Tarantino, not yet.

Wolfe avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Wolfe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tarantino can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Wolfe controls the pace.

Wolfe is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Tarantino has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Wolfe is looking to defend but Tarantino has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Wolfe! Tarantino pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Wolfe taps out and this one is all over!

During a confident post fight interview, Quintet Tarantino thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
