PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Josh Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Texas Pete (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Martin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Texas Pete!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Pete gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Martin could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Pete keeps control of Martin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Pete goes for a takedown in the clinch but Martin prevents it.

Martin manages to break the clinch.
Martin circles away from the clinch attempt.
Pete goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Pete fails in his attempt to clinch.

Pete shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Martin wants to control but Pete is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Martin is pressing down on Pete's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Pete is looking to stand up but Martin won't let him.
Martin is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Pete is trying to stand up here but Martin is controlling him well.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Martin trying to control the pace.
Martin frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Martin wants to control the pace but Pete is squirming around nicely.
Pete wants to hold on but Martin pushes him away.
Pete in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Martin is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Pete stuffs the takedown attempt from Martin. Martin gets slowly back to his feet.
Pete's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Pete duly obliges.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pete rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Martin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Good shot there by Pete.

Pete has taken the fight to the clinch.

Pete's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Pete bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Martin regains half guard.
Martin slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Pete looks gassed!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Martin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Pete trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom.
Pete really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martin. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Pete won't allow Martin to sweep him here.

Pete being controlled here momentarily.
Pete content to stall in guard here.
Martin looking for a sweep. Not yet Martin, not yet.

Pete postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Martin is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pete, into his guard.
Martin might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Martin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Martin would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pete looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martin is one step ahead there.

Pete working for submissions but it's allowed Martin to get to half guard.
Pete looks like he's trying to stand up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Texas Pete dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Martin will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Martin fails with the takedown
and Pete counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Pete shoots for a takedown but Martin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Good leg kick by Pete there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Pete counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Pete.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Martin. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pete drags the fight down to the ground.
Pete is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Martin is controlling him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pete looking to hit a scissor sweep but Martin is one step ahead there.

Martin is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Pete controls Martin momentarily but Martin frees himself.
Martin looking to pass the guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pete looking for a sweep. Not yet Pete, not yet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Martin rushes Pete and presses him up against the cage.
Pete tries for a takedown. No joy.
Pete is pressed up against the cage. Martin has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pete down to the mat. Pete avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Martin scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Martin is trying to control. Pete wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Martin controlling the action here.
Pete tries to get to full guard but Martin has control of the leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pete trying to control but Martin postures up.

Pete looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Martin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Pete keeps working.
The fighters are battling for position here. Pete manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Martin working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Martin slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Pete is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Pete keeping busy, throwing shots from the bottom.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Pete is trying to keep Martin in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Texas Pete will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Martin tries for a takedown but Pete circles away easily
and Pete counters with a big head kick but Martin shrugs it off.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Pete.
Pete looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Martin is fending him off so far but Pete persists. Nope, Martin circles away and we're back to standing.
Pete walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Josh Martin is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Martin drives through with a takedown into guard.
Martin stays in close to Pete's body and controls the position.
Martin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pete for as long as he can get away with.

Pete throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Martin escapes and throws Pete's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Pete wants to get back to his feet but Martin drags him back down.
Martin trying to control the position but Pete is working away.
Pete is looking for a sweep.
Pete tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Martin easily slips into full mount!
Martin lands with some strikes.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Martin is hanging on to Pete's back as he tries to escape.
Pete is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Pete is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Martin off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Good control from Martin.
Pete wants to escape the position.
Martin has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Pete's body.
Martin is landing with strikes from the back.

Martin is cranking Pete's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Pete! He's tightened the choke and Pete is tapping out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Josh Martin!
