Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sum Yung Gai (ranked 2636 p4p, 2477 weight class) and Trevor Philips (ranked 362 p4p, 338 weight class). Trevor Philips has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Sum Yung Gai! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Trevor Philips! The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Peter Branson and Michael Johnstone.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Philips looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Yung Gai takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Trevor Philips seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Philips moves away from the strike by Yung Gai. Philips swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Yung Gai avoids the body shot from Philips.
Philips throws a looping overhand right but Yung Gai ducks down to avoid it. Yung Gai lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Philips at a distance.
Nice uppercut lands for Philips. That snapped Yung Gai's head back.
Yung Gai looks to score with a jab to the body but Philips is just out of range. Yung Gai definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. A cross from Yung Gai lands. Yung Gai takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Yung Gai takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him. A shot to the liver by Philips. Beautiful body shot. Philips scores with a nice right hand.
Philips cracks Yung Gai with an uppercut from hell and Yung Gai crumples to the canvas, he's out! Oh no, he's recovered and he's grabbed one of Philips's legs and pulled him into guard. The ref thought about stopping it there but he's let it go - good reffing!
Yung Gai is rocked! Yung Gai is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Oh Yung Gai is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Philips is fighting to break Yung Gai's control of his arms but Yung Gai is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Yung Gai seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Philips looking to sit in guard and control but Yung Gai gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Yung Gai stopping the sweep attempt from Philips. Yung Gai tries to stand but Philips is controlling from the bottom. Philips wants to sweep but no luck. Yung Gai wants to get up but he can't break Philips's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Yung Gai decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Philips, up you get!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Yung Gai throws a body shot but no joy. Philips tries for a takedown but Yung Gai circles away easily and Yung Gai counters with a left to the body. Yung Gai jabbing away but nothing is landing. A jab from Philips misses. Philips drives through with a takedown into Yung Gai's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Philips being controlled here momentarily. Yung Gai can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Philips controls the pace. Philips throwing strikes but missing. Philips trying to control the position from guard on top but Yung Gai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Philips wants to pass the guard but Yung Gai is keeping the position. Philips not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Yung Gai bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Philips's guard.
Yung Gai decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Philips throws a big shot that misses. Philips avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Philips paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Philips tries to clinch up and Yung Gai counters with a lovely straight right hand! Philips has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A slow jab from Yung Gai misses its intended target. Philips misses with a combination
and Yung Gai counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Philips is looking to clinch. Yung Gai digs a good hook to Philips's body.
Yung Gai throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Philips looks winded! Yung Gai takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

and Philips counters with a lovely straight right hand! Yung Gai throws an overhand right that lands on Philips's shoulder, as Philips tries to avoid the shot. Philips throws an off balance right hand
and Yung Gai counters with a lovely shot to the body. A shot to the liver by Philips. Beautiful body shot. Yung Gai lands with a straight right. Philips didn't see that one coming. Sum Yung Gai is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Yung Gai uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Philips. Philips throws a lazy right hand but Yung Gai sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Trevor Philips will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action! Yung Gai on the wrong end of a nice jab. Yung Gai has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Philips finds it's way round the side to connect with Yung Gai's head. Philips lunges at Yung Gai with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Yung Gai's hand. Philips on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Philips uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Yung Gai. Philips lands with a cross. Yung Gai misses with a straight left. Philips catches Yung Gai napping and connects with a big right hand that sends Yung Gai to the canvas!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Philips controlling from the top position. Philips wants to control from the top but Yung Gai keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Philips wants to pass the guard but Yung Gai is keeping the position. Philips is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Yung Gai has Philips pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Philips sizes up Yung Gai with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Yung Gai on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Trevor Philips seems to be getting the better of the standup. Yung Gai misses the jab. Philips works the jab nicely. Philips uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Yung Gai. Philips misses with a hook. Yung Gai ducked under it nicely. Philips cracks Yung Gai with a big right hand and Yung Gai goes down! Philips is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Philips trying to control the position from guard on top but Yung Gai is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Yung Gai seems keen to control Philips's posture. Philips trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Philips is still trying to improve position. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Yung Gai working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Philips.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. Philips lands with an overhand left. Yung Gai fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done. Yung Gai has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Yung Gai scores with a jab to the body. Philips misses with a straight right. Yung Gai throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Yung Gai was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Yung Gai ducks under a wild hook from Philips. A little feinted left hand from Yung Gai on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Philips feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Yung Gais jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Yung Gai misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Philips.
Philips fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Yung Gai on the side of the head. Philips lands a jab to the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Trevor Philips showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round! Yung Gai scores with a body shot.

Yung Gai moves out of range as Philips strikes. It looked like Yung Gai wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Philips drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Yung Gai doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. A jab from Philips misses. Philips shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Yung Gai misses the shot to the body. Philips misses with a left hand and Yung Gai counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Philips thinking. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! and Yung Gai counters with a right hand to the body. Philips takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Philips throws a shot from downtown. Yung Gai moves away and avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice jab there from Yung Gai. Philips connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Philips ducks under a wild hook from Yung Gai. Yung Gai staying out of range there. Yung Gai lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Philips at a distance.
Philips has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Nice defenses there by Philips. Philips slips a straight right by Yung Gai. Philips tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Yung Gai paws at him with a jab and circles away. Yung Gai was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger. Philips lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Yung Gai throws an overhand right that lands on Philips's shoulder, as Philips tries to avoid the shot. Philips uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yung Gai.
And Philips tries to counter it with a takedown but Yung Gai pushes his down on his head and steps out. A big left from Yung Gai misses. Yung Gai looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Yung Gai swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Philips throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Yung Gai's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Philips dives in looking to finish as Yung Gai flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Philips's strikes! Philips is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Yung Gai's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Yung Gai was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
