PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Samuel Sanchez (ranked 1318 p4p, 1480 weight class) and Darry Curtis (ranked 191 p4p, 212 weight class). Curtis is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Stevie Wonder - Stay Gold. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samuel Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darry Curtis!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Sanchez gets the takedown into side control.
Sanchez staying calm.
Curtis is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Sanchez asserts his dominance and retains side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sanchez throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Curtis works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Sanchez is stalling here. Curtis is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Sanchez seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Curtis has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Curtis circles away from the clinch attempt.
Curtis looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Darry Curtis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch but Curtis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Curtis slips a jab from Sanchez.
Sanchez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Curtis unleashes a big counter combination but Sanchez bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
Sanchez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Sanchez gets a takedown into half guard.

Curtis has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Sanchez is on him like a limpet, forcing Curtis back against the cage.

Curtis misses with a hook to the ribs.
A head punch on the inside from Curtis fails to land.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sanchez has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Curtis after a bit of a struggle.
Curtis works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Curtis breaks the clinch.
Curtis walks into a straight right hand from Sanchez.
Curtis connects with the punch.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Sanchez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

A nice leg kick from Curtis, right into the meat of the thigh.
Sanchez takes a swing at Curtis's ribcage but misses.
Sanchez drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Curtis tries to land a front kick but Sanchez steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

It looks like Darry Curtis has been cut.
Sanchez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Sanchez lands with a good body shot.

Curtis throws a body punch but Sanchez moves out of range.
A quick step to the side and Sanchez tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Sanchez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Curtis on the side of the head.
Curtis thows a left - swing and a miss!

Curtis throws a leg kick which misses Sanchez's front leg but catches the back leg as Sanchez tries to avoid it.
Curtis avoids the body shot from Sanchez.
Sanchez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Curtis throws a body shot but no joy.
It looked like Sanchez wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Curtis misses with a straight right.
Sanchez scores with a nice strike.
Curtis is looking to slow Sanchez down with leg kicks.
Sanchez shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Curtis misses with a lunging right hand
and Sanchez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Sanchez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Curtis tries to avoid it but Sanchez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Curtis to the ground. Curtis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sanchez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Curtis moves away.

and Sanchez counters with a stiff right hand.

and Curtis counters with a straight right hand.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Curtis takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Sanchez closes the distance and clinches up with Curtis, looking for a takedown. Sanchez pushes Curtis against the cage but Curtis circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Curtis looks to land a body kick but Sanchez moved away.
Curtis is looking to slow Sanchez down with leg kicks.
Curtis lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Sanchez at a distance.

Curtis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
It seemed like Curtis was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Curtis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sanchez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Curtis tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sanchez is able to avoid easily.

Curtis connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Sanchez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sanchez is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

A looping hook to the body misses from Sanchez. Curtis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sanchez avoids a kick to the body.
Darry Curtis seems to be getting the better of the standup.

and Sanchez counters with a right hand to the body.
Sanchez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Despite the aggression on Curtis's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
The fighters circle momentarily. Sanchez darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Curtis blocks a jab.
Curtis lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Curtis fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Donk. Sanchez catches Curtis right on the button with a cross.
Curtis lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Curtis misses with a looping right.
Curtis has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Curtis fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sanchez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Curtis throws a head kick but Sanchez moves out of range.

Curtis dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Sanchez. That did some damage!

Sanchez is rocked!
Sanchez doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Curtis cracks Sanchez with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Oh Sanchez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Curtis cracks Sanchez with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Sanchez looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Curtis finish him?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Curtis rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Sanchez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Curtis scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Sanchez misses with an uppercut
and Curtis counters with a nice leg kick.
Sanchez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Curtis.

and Curtis counters with a good, hard body kick but Sanchez shrugs it off.
Sanchez seems to have got his legs back now.

Darry Curtis comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Curtis has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
