Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Im Groot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Elrick Lee!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Groot changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Lee fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Lee attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Lee plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
It looks like Im Groot has been cut.
Lee throws a sloppy head kick and Groot moves out of range easily.
A looping hook to the body misses from Groot. Lee does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lee raises up his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
Groot wants to clinch up but Lee keeps it at a distance.
Lee looks to land a left hand but Groot moved out of range nicely.
Groot feinted with a counter takedown.
Lee throws a body shot but no joy.
Lee throws a series of punches but Groot avoids them all with ease.
Lee is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Groot blocks a head kick by Lee.
Lee will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lee tries to sprawl but Groot drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Lee is trying to stand back up but Groot is controlling him
Groot keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Groot is working for a kimura but Lee is defending it quite comfortably.
Groot content to control rather than advance.
Lee is refusing to be controlled, as Groot sits in half guard.
Lee is trying to stand.
Groot wants to take a breather but Lee is having none of it.
Groot is looking to advance position but Lee won't allow it.
Groot passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Lee!
Lee felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lee is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Lee is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Groot is looking to work his way around to Lee's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.
Groot jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Lee is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Lee and Groot has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Lee is wriggling around trying to escape but Groot has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! Lee taps out and Groot picks up the big win! Great work there by Groot!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Im Groot!
After the fight, Im Groot was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
