PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mono Loco (ranked 2179 p4p, 2872 weight class) and Eric Draven (ranked 212 p4p, 282 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mono Loco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 13 - 2, fighting out of London, Eric Draven!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Draven clinches with his opponent.
Loco tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Draven breaks the clinch.
Draven slaps away a takedown attempt from Loco, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Draven clinches up against the cage.

Draven breaks the clinch.

Loco gets tackled into the cage by Draven. Draven maintains the clinch.
Draven pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Draven pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Loco drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Loco stops Draven from standing up.
Loco not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Draven is looking to stand up but Loco isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Draven stuffs the takedown.

Loco closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Loco lands in his opponent's guard.

Draven escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Loco gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Draven is trying to keep Loco in close.

Draven kicks Loco off and gets to his feet.
Loco closes the distance and clinches up with Draven, looking for a takedown. Loco pushes Draven against the cage but Draven circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Draven defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Loco.

Draven breaks from the clinch.

and Draven counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Loco avoids a punch combination nicely.

Draven drives through and clinches with Loco against the cage.

Loco ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Loco no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Draven trying to control the position from guard on top but Loco is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Loco working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Draven doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Draven manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Draven slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Loco controls Draven momentarily but Draven frees himself.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Draven clinches up with Loco and pushes him back against the cage.
Draven looking to throw knees to the head but Loco is blocking nicely.
Loco is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Draven gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Loco tries to pull guard but Draven won't allow it.

Draven breaks from the clinch.
Draven tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Loco manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Draven slaps away a takedown attempt from Loco, before circling back to the center of the mat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mono Loco. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Loco tries to score a power double leg takedown but Draven sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Loco somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Loco is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Draven's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Loco is defended easily by Draven.

Loco seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Loco is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Loco is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Draven is just riding it out for now. Loco eventually gives up the hold.

Loco is trying to control. Draven wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Draven pushes Loco off looking to stand but Loco dives back in and keeps control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Loco is trying hard to land a takedown here. Draven sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Loco shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Draven pinned against the cage. Draven gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Draven pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Draven misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Draven is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

A looping hook to the body misses from Draven. Loco does a little dance to reset his feet.

Draven has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Eric Draven showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

and Draven counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Draven with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Loco is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Draven lands a hook that snaps the head of Loco backwards.

Draven connects with a nasty looking knee right to Loco's face.

Loco breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Loco fails with a takedown attempt.
Draven steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Loco.

Draven moves into range and clinches up with Loco.
Loco wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Eric Draven is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Draven's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
The crowd are getting on Draven's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.

I've got Draven winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
