PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dustin Chestnut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Balboa comes into the arena with Gonna Fly Now blaring out of the sound system. Rocky Balboa has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Rocky Balboa !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dustin Chestnut!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Balboa moves in looking to clinch but Chestnut pushes him off.
Chestnut fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Balboa tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Chestnut rushes Balboa and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Chestnut dodges an elbow strike from Balboa .

Balboa drags the fight down to the ground.
Balboa is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Balboa will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Balboa manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Chestnut tries to hold on but Balboa pushes him away.
Balboa trying to control but he's not successful this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Balboa controlling the pace for now.
Balboa can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Chestnut is looking to escape.
Chestnut holds on for dear life.
Balboa manages to capitalize on a mistake by Chestnut to take his back!
Balboa gets his hands free as Chestnut looks to control.
Balboa wants to control but Chestnut is keeping busy.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Balboa controls the position.
Chestnut turns into Balboa and is now in his guard.

Balboa escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chestnut gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Chestnut trying to control the position from guard on top but Balboa is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Balboa looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Balboa is breathing heavily.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Chestnut shoots in for a takedown but Balboa shows good takedown defense.
Chestnut misses with a takedown attempt - Balboa sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Rocky Balboa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dustin Chestnut.
Balboa scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Chestnut misses with a jab, cross combination.
Balboa shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Chestnut counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Chestnut is nestled in close to Balboa , controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Chestnut seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Balboa is looking to improve his position.

Chestnut thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Balboa 's head.

Balboa really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Chestnut closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Balboa to the mat! Balboa manages to get full guard.
Chestnut slips nicely into half guard.
Balboa looks like he's trying to stand up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chestnut laying and praying for a moment but Balboa takes advantage and regains half guard.
Chestnut takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Chestnut is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Chestnut is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Balboa has managed to free his arm - good work.

Chestnut decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Chestnut has a takedown stuffed.
Balboa stuffs the takedown.
Donk. Chestnut catches Balboa right on the button with a cross.
Chestnut throws a series of punches but Balboa avoids them all with ease.
Chestnut throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Chestnut closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Balboa trying his best to control but Chestnut has mounted him.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Balboa is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Chestnut controlling the position easily from mount.

Balboa is squirming around, avoiding Chestnut's attempts to control the action.
A nice elbow there by Chestnut.
Chestnut is landing with some decent strikes but Balboa is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Chestnut can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Balboa is looking to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dustin Chestnut showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Balboa is looking for a sweep. Chestnut is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Chestnut throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Chestnut with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Chestnut wants to pass to mount but Balboa is defending the position.
Chestnut thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Well, if Chestnut is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Chestnut slips a nice elbow through Balboa 's hands, connecting with Balboa 's forehead.

Chestnut looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Balboa knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chestnut on the ground.
Chestnut content to control rather than advance.

Despite being in the dominant position, Dustin Chestnut just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chestnut shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Chestnut not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Chestnut is thwarting Balboa 's attempts to control the position.
Chestnut working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Chestnut is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Balboa !

Chestnut won't let Balboa get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Chestnut wants to control the pace but Balboa is squirming around nicely.
Balboa tries to buck Chestnut off but he can't manage it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chestnut lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dustin Chestnut comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Chestnut winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
