This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 13 wins and 6 losses; Andy Shifter! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 14 wins and 11 losses; Tsuyoi Kakuto! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Sosuke Kotani and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Kakuto closes the distance and clinches up with Shifter, looking for a takedown. Kakuto pushes Shifter against the cage but Shifter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Shifter tries to clinch up but Kakuto circles away and keeps his distance. Shifter clinches with his opponent.
Kakuto decides to pull guard. Shifter really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Shifter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Shifter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Kakuto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Kakuto keeps trying to improve his position.

That's seven minutes gone in the round. Kakuto is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Shifter biding his time, looking for the opening.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shifter controls the action. Kakuto tries to roll but Shifter sticks to his back.

That's eight minutes gone in the round. Kakuto breaks Shifter's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.

That's nine minutes gone in the round. Kakuto tries to free his leg and advance position but Shifter is retaining full guard. Kakuto passes Shifter's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Shifter keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Shifter is pressing down on Kakuto's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Shifter can't keep his opponent in guard - Kakuto advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Shifter is controlling Kakuto's position as best he can from this difficult position. Shifter trying to control but Kakuto postures up.
Shifter is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control. Kakuto seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Shifter does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Shifter is controlling Kakuto's position as best he can from this difficult position. Kakuto wants to pass the guard but Shifter is defending well. Kakuto looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Kakuto wants to pass the guard but Shifter is defending well. Shifter keeping hold of Kakuto's head, controlling as best he can. Shifter tries to get to full guard but Kakuto has control of the leg. Kakuto is figuring out what he wants to do next.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Shifter desperately trying to maintain half guard. Shifter tries to roll over but Kakuto keeps him under control. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Shifter is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
