PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Cruz Jr (ranked 54 p4p, 199 weight class) and Pauke Murhapuro (ranked 11 p4p, 37 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jorge Cruz Jr has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jorge Cruz Jr seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pauke Murhapuro!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cruz Jr throws a right and a left that both miss.
Cruz Jr looks for the body kick but Murhapuro saw that one coming.
Murhapuro wants to counter with a clinch but Cruz Jr pushes him away.
Murhapuro swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Cruz Jr.
Murhapuro throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Cruz Jr is looking to counter with head kicks.

Murhapuro fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cruz Jr, pushing him back against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Cruz Jr jumps guard but Murhapuro turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
I was talking to Cruz Jr's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Cruz Jr tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Murhapuro just stands there and leans against the cage.

Cruz Jr jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Murhapuro walks away with a smile on his face. Cruz Jr gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jorge Cruz Jr. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That kick from Murhapuro tenderised Cruz Jr's leg. Cruz Jr is trying to keep his angry face on.
Cruz Jr misses with a head kick.
Murhapuro appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Cruz Jr lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Cruz Jr misses with a straight left.

Cruz Jr on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Cruz Jr moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Murhapuro fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Cruz Jr.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Murhapuro drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Murhapuro is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Murhapuro trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Murhapuro tries to pass to full mount but Cruz Jr defends it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Murhapuro is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cruz Jr has managed to free his arm - good work.

Murhapuro is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Cruz Jr is just riding it out for now. Murhapuro eventually gives up the hold.

Murhapuro is working for a kimura but Cruz Jr is defending it quite comfortably.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cruz Jr is trying to stand up here but Murhapuro is controlling him well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Pauke Murhapuro dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!

Murhapuro uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Cruz Jr.
Murhapuro throws a lazy right hand but Cruz Jr sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Cruz Jr throws a quick counter head kick but Murhapuro was just out of range.

A little jabbing left from Murhapuro on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Jorge Cruz Jr is winning the standup battle so far.
Murhapuro throws a nice inside leg kick.
Murhapuro throws a hook to the side of Cruz Jr's head but Cruz Jr sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Cruz Jr is looking to counter with a shot to the body.

A little feinted left hand from Cruz Jr on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Murhapuro swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Cruz Jr counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Cruz Jr lands a big head kick that sends Murhapuro tumbling to the mat! Cruz Jr takes a step backwards and waves Murhapuro back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Murhapuro is rocked!

It looks like Pauke Murhapuro has been cut.
and Cruz Jr counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Murhapuro! He's just covering up as Cruz Jr starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jorge Cruz Jr!
Jorge Cruz Jr decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
