PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Slinger (ranked 3495 p4p, 5670 weight class) and Israel Kirzner (ranked 329 p4p, 441 weight class). Slinger comes into the arena with Hail Mary blaring out of the sound system. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Slinger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Israel Kirzner!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slinger gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
enabling Kirzner to counter with a crisp jab.
Kirzner misses with a hook. Slinger ducked under it nicely.
Slinger misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Slinger looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kirzner tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Slinger was well out of range. Poor timing from Kirzner.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Slinger bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Slinger is looking to take a break and control but Kirzner is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've been hearing that Slinger has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Slinger working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

The referee asks Slinger politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Slinger prefers to stall for the moment though.

Slinger wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kirzner, who protects the arm well.
Kirzner looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
The ground and pound from Slinger seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Slinger is putting a hurting on Kirzner here, landing some big shots from side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kirzner can do anything to dispel that myth.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Slinger is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kirzner knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Slinger works to advance to full mount. Kirzner defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Slinger tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Slinger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Poor strikes thrown by Slinger there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Slinger with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Kirzner really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Slinger. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Slinger wants to control the pace but Kirzner is squirming around nicely.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Slinger shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kirzner sprawls well. Kirzner wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Slinger gets slowly back to his feet.
No luck for Slinger with that takedown attempt.
Kirzner throws out a counter right but Slinger avoids it with no problem.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Patrick Slinger. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kirzner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Slinger manages to avoid it.

Slinger shoots for a double leg takedown but Kirzner sprawls well. He's pushed Slinger's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Slinger fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kirzner now looks to counter with a shot at the body.
Slinger is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kirzner can do to turn this around?

Slinger feints and as Kirzner raises his hands in defense, Slinger changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Slinger accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kirzner wants to sweep here but Slinger controlling him for the moment.

Slinger distracts Kirzner with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Slinger not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Israel Kirzner showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Israel Kirzner is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Slinger lands with a kick to the temple. Kirzner shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Slinger throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Kirzner tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Slinger is in Kirzner's guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kirzner throws a nice looking combination but Slinger bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Slinger counters with a shoot takedown. Kirzner fights it but they end up in guard.

Kirzner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Slinger wants to control from the top but Kirzner keeps moving.
Patrick Slinger overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Slinger is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Slinger shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Kirzner is trying to defend but Slinger finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Slinger seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Kirzner does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Slinger lands with a punch from half guard.
Slinger throwing shots but Kirzner is blocking nicely.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Slinger is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Slinger wants to work for an arm triangle but Kirzner is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
Patrick Slinger showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Slinger has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
