PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Jiu Jitsu (ranked 2717 p4p, 2578 weight class) and Reynard Frederick (ranked 269 p4p, 258 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Jiu Jitsu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Reynard Frederick!
The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Sandra Marshall and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Frederick takes a swing at Jitsu's ribcage but misses.
Frederick throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Frederick swings for the body but Jitsu moves out of range.
It appears Jitsu was looking to counter with a kick there.
Jitsu avoids the body shot from Frederick.
Frederick misses the shot to the body.
Frederick throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jitsu is looking to counter punch.
Donk. Frederick catches Jitsu right on the button with a cross.
Frederick tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jitsu was well out of range. Poor timing from Frederick.

Jitsu fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Frederick sprawls well initially but Jitsu persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Jitsu is working for a kimura but Frederick is defending it quite comfortably.

Frederick really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jitsu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Frederick had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jitsu defends it easily.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Jitsu takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Frederick ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jitsu moves away.
As Frederick tries to get set, Jitsu tries to push him back and clinch up but Frederick manages to avoid the attempt.
Frederick connects with a good right hand that stumbles Jitsu. Jitsu circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Frederick is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Jitsu rather than just go for the knockout.
Frederick stuffs the takedown attempt from Jitsu. Jitsu gets slowly back to his feet.

Jitsu uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Frederick.

Jitsu needs to keep his hands up - Frederick had a free shot at his head there.

Jitsu drops his hands momentarily and Frederick takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Jitsu takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Frederick has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

and Jitsu counters with a series of strikes. Frederick will be more careful next time no doubt.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jitsu wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
No luck for Jitsu with that takedown attempt.
Jitsu goes for a double leg but Frederick avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Frederick continues to drive forward.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jiu Jitsu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Frederick manages to break the clinch.
Jitsu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Frederick's waist but Frederick gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jitsu off to one side.
A nice side step and Frederick releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

Jitsu closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Jitsu dives in and grabs Frederick's left leg, looking for a takedown. Frederick pushes down on Jitsu's head and hops out.

Frederick feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Jitsus jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Frederick fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Jitsu looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
