PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hells No (ranked 2954 p4p, 4013 weight class) and Antonio Gomes (ranked 375 p4p, 466 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No looks to throw the jab but Gomes is out of range.
Gomes is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Gomes .

Gomes shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gomes showed some decent athleticism there.
No has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gomes is working away from the top position though.

No is trying to maintain the position but Gomes is very close to passing his half guard.

No has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gomes is working away from the top position though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
No leaves Gomes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
No misses with an uppercut. Gomes saw that one coming.
No tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Gomes paws at him with a jab and circles away.

No looking to break Gomes 's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Gomes remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise No will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

No is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Gomes defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Gomes wants to escape the position.

No looking for the choke but no joy.
No gets his hands free as Gomes looks to control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
No is trying to stick to Gomes 's back but Gomes is turning into No. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in No's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gomes .

No is taking a breather. Gomes says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

No is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Gomes can do to turn this around?

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

No rushes Gomes and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gomes tries to pull guard but No won't allow it.
No tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

We've been informed that Gomes has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hells No has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Antonio Gomes .

No has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Gomes uses from the top position.
