PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Dwalin Broadaxe (ranked 2160 p4p, 2540 weight class) and Brandon Shamrock (ranked 215 p4p, 258 weight class). Shamrock has chosen Canned Heat- Going Up The Country as his entrance music. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Brandon Shamrock was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwalin Broadaxe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brandon Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock leaves Broadaxe with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Shamrock stuffs the takedown attempt from Broadaxe. Broadaxe gets slowly back to his feet.
Shamrock is looking for the big counter here.
Broadaxe throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shamrock's waist but Shamrock gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Broadaxe off to one side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dwalin Broadaxe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Broadaxe drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Shamrock tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Broadaxe lands a big shot there that rocks Shamrock but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Shamrock is still in real trouble! Can Broadaxe finish him?

Shamrock really wants to buck Broadaxe off and get back to his feet.
Shamrock seems to have recovered his senses.
Broadaxe lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Shamrock is trying to get back to his feet but can't.

Broadaxe lands a couple of good shots and Shamrock has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Broadaxe is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Shamrock prevents Broadaxe from getting a body triangle.
Shamrock is trying to get back to his feet but Broadaxe has full control of the position and if anything, Shamrock has just worked his way into a worse spot.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dwalin Broadaxe dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Broadaxe bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
As Shamrock tries to get set, Broadaxe tries to push him back and clinch up but Shamrock manages to avoid the attempt.
Broadaxe fails with the takedown.
Broadaxe shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shamrock defends it nicely.
A countering left hand to the body from Shamrock misses.

Broadaxe scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Broadaxe is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Shamrock can do to turn this around?
Shamrock wants to get back to his feet but Broadaxe is dominant here and he's now got Shamrock's back!
Broadaxe just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Dwalin Broadaxe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Broadaxe lands a punch to the side of the head from the back.
Shamrock prevents Broadaxe from getting a body triangle.
Shamrock is trying to stand back up.

Broadaxe scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.

Broadaxe is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Shamrock is defending well though. Broadaxe let's go of the attempt for now.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Shamrock is trying to stand back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Broadaxe lands punches and elbows.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Dwalin Broadaxe dominated that second round.
That's time! Broadaxe's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Broadaxe tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Shamrock counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Dwalin Broadaxe is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Dwalin Broadaxe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Broadaxe drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Broadaxe's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Broadaxe wants to control from the top but Shamrock keeps moving.

Broadaxe controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Broadaxe looking to pass the guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Broadaxe scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Shamrock won't allow Broadaxe to pass to mount.
Broadaxe working Shamrock over with strikes.
Broadaxe lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Broadaxe moves nicely into side control.
Broadaxe connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Shamrock some visible discomfort.

Shamrock is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Broadaxe controlling the position from side mount.
Shamrock pushes Broadaxe away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Broadaxe gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dwalin Broadaxe showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Broadaxe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
