PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Asis Mubarak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marko Perkovich (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Perkovich has chosen Thompson-Čavoglave as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Asis Mubarak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marko Perkovich!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Sosuke Kotani and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Mubarak gets caught flat footed, as Perkovich shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mubarak looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Perkovich sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mubarak's guard.
Mubarak tries to roll over but Perkovich keeps him under control.

Perkovich is looking for a kimura but Mubarak is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Perkovich to get the leverage.

Perkovich stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Mubarak to get to his feet.

and Perkovich counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Perkovich passes Mubarak's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Perkovich is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Perkovich looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Perkovich is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mubarak is just riding it out for now. Perkovich eventually gives up the hold.
Perkovich works his way into full mount!

Perkovich jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Mubarak manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Perkovich trying to control the action but Mubarak is working from the bottom.
Mubarak knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perkovich on the ground.
Mubarak tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mubarak on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Mubarak tries to get out of the position.
Mubarak manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Mubarak looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Mubarak wants to improve his position but Perkovich is controlling well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Perkovich trying to pass the guard but Mubarak defending well.
Mubarak is trying to get back to full guard.
Mubarak is trying to control but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Mubarak looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Perkovich!
Perkovich should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Mubarak jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Perkovich is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Perkovich and Mubarak has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Mubarak tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Mubarak lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Mubarak working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Perkovich struggling a bit here.

Mubarak looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Mubarak sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Perkovich is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Perkovich is not content to let Mubarak control the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Mubarak doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Perkovich counters with a nice double leg into guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Perkovich passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Perkovich is looking to take a break and control but Mubarak is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Mubarak is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Perkovich tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Perkovich has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Mubarak gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Perkovich wants to work for an arm triangle but Mubarak is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marko Perkovich dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Perkovich in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Mubarak tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Perkovich!
