This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the light heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 20 wins and 9 losses; Ze Jiurgite! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 19 wins and 8 losses; Bobby Wangler! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Luis Engracia.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Wangler has managed to clinch.
Wangler is trying to pull guard but Jiurgite turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Wangler has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Jiurgite after a bit of a struggle. Jiurgite is fighting off a takedown attempt but Wangler is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Jiurgite to the mat. Jiurgite regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Jiurgite (0) vs (2) Wangler Wangler stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jiurgite swivels though and keeps the full guard. We've been hearing good reports from Jiurgite's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Jiurgite looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Wangler puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Jiurgite tries to get to full guard but Wangler has control of the leg. My spies in Fenrir MMA inform me that Wangler has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Wangler looking to pass the half guard. He's hooked one of Wangler's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Wangler's back! Jiurgite has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Wangler has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Wangler is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Jiurgite gets his way!

Wangler remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Jiurgite will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Wangler prevents Jiurgite from getting a body triangle. Jiurgite goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Wangler escapes and is now in half guard on top. That's nine minutes gone in the round. Jiurgite is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Wangler is defending well though. Jiurgite let's go of the attempt for now. Wangler is in a bad position with Jiurgite working for a choke. Wangler manages to spin nicely into guard and the danger is over for the moment. Wangler is pushing down on Jiurgite's leg trying to pass to half guard. Jiurgite is fighting to maintain full guard but Wangler has managed to sneak the leg through. Wangler is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
