CWC 225 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 2 losses; Ricardo Rebenta! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 4 losses; Tatu Kurri! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and Eddie Farnsworth.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Rebenta doesn't succeed with the takedown and Kurri counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Kurri. Kurri pulls Rebenta into guard.
Rebenta wants to control from the top but Kurri keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Rebenta is really struggling to control Kurri but he's trying to hold on to the position. Rebenta works a leg free and moves into half guard. Rebenta is working for a kimura but Kurri is defending it quite comfortably.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kurri wants to control but Rebenta is keeping busy and won't allow it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kurri wants to get back to full guard. Rebenta takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Kurri moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Rebenta trying to control but Kurri is working from the bottom. Rebenta definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rebenta advances to half guard. Kurri is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rebenta pulls his head out easily. Kurri is trying to get back to full guard. Rebenta trying to mount his opponent but Kurri defends it. Kurri tries to roll over but Rebenta keeps him under control. Rebenta is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kurri doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Rebenta. Kurri is refusing to be controlled, as Rebenta sits in half guard. Kurri is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Rebenta's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Rebenta's back! Score +4 for clean sweep to past guard: Rebenta (0) vs (4) Kurri
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kurri tightening his grip on Rebenta, looking for the choke. Kurri controlling well, preventing Rebenta from escaping the position.
Kurri has got one arm under Rebenta's chin. This could be trouble... Rebenta trying to control the other hand but Kurri gets it free and sqeezes tight - just a matter of time now! Yep, Rebenta has tapped out! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Tatu Kurri! After the fight, Tatu Kurri was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly. |
