This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 6 losses; Pavel Savkov! And in the blue corner, fighting out of London, with a TWGC record of 4 wins and 7 losses; Fredrik Stenberg! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Stenberg closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Savkov's guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Savkov (0) vs (2) Stenberg We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Savkov keeping moving, preventing Stenberg from controlling successfully. Stenberg advances to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Stenberg wants to advance to full mount but Savkov doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Savkov looking to control.

Stenberg advances to half guard. Savkov has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Stenberg controlling the pace. Stenberg seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Savkov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Stenberg slows the pace down in half guard. Stenberg is looking to pass Savkov's guard but actually Savkov recovers to full guard. Stenberg seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Stenberg can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Savkov is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Stenberg defends it well. Stenberg moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Stenberg manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Savkov manages to get himself to full guard.
