CWC 232 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the featherweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 5 losses; Holt Dennis! And in the blue corner, fighting out of New York, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 3 losses; John Lee! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Steve Smith and Ian Loll.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Lee has closed the distance and engaged Dennis in a clinch.
Lee gets underhooks to prevent Dennis's takedown attempt.
Lee tries to pull guard but Dennis holds him up against the cage and eventually Lee drops back down to his feet.
Lee drags the fight down to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Lee bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dennis's guard. Score +2 for sweep to guard / half guard: Dennis (0) vs (2) Lee Lee content to stall in guard here. Lee trying to control the position from guard on top but Dennis is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Dennis wants to sweep here but Lee controlling him for the moment. Lee trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lee looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Lee won't allow Dennis to sweep him here. Lee forces his way into half guard. Lee wants to pass to mount but Dennis is defending the position. Lee is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lee trying to control from half guard but Dennis is working away. Dennis preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Lee wants to free his trapped foot but Dennis is holding on for dear life with his legs. Lee trying to control the action but Dennis is working from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Dennis is looking to regain full guard. He's left an arm up in the air though and Lee has latched onto it... Big trouble! Lee pivots for an armbar - it's in tight and it Dennis is tapping in no time flat! Great counter grappling there from Lee!
