PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Anderson Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gay Al (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gay Al struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gay Al!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva cracks the inside of Al's front leg.

Al shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Silva wants to stand but Al is controlling the position.
Al trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Al stopping the sweep attempt from Silva.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Al looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Silva throws a series of punches but Al avoids them all with ease.
Al will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Al takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva connects with a high kick.
Silva darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Silva throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Silva connects with a right hand. Al shakes it off.
Silva throws a series of punches but Al avoids them all with ease.
Al keeps the fight on the outside.
Al takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Silva lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Al circles away quickly and effectively.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva scores with a jab to the jaw.
Al drops his hands momentarily and Silva takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Al walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Al needs to keep his hands up - Silva had a free shot at his head there.
Silva drops Al with a left and a right! Oh, Al is hurt - Silva dives into side control looking to finish!


Al is rocked!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Silva wants to stand but Al is controlling his arm.

Silva knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Al on the ground.

Silva tries to move into full mount but can't pass Al's legs.

Al throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Al has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Silva scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva throws a right and a left that both miss.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


A left lands for Al.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Al.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Al paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Silva lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Silva misses with the combination.
Al throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Al changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Silva tries to avoid it but Al manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Silva to the ground. Silva escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Al will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Silva tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Al paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Al closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Silva tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Al presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Al postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva looks a forlorn figure.

Silva wants to hold on but Al pushes him away.

Al is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Silva is surviving well by controlling Al's body position as best he can.

Al has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.

Gay Al showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Silva misses with a hook. Al ducked under it nicely.

Al has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Silva finds it's way round the side to connect with Al's head.

Silva throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Anderson Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Al fails in his attempt to clinch.

Al has taken the fight to the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Silva throws an elbow but misses.

Silva pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.
Al blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Al is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Silva sees it coming and defends easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Al is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Silva defends it well.

Gay Al comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Al has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
