Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jean Luc Picard (ranked 3717 p4p, 4166 weight class) and Barnabas Ungar (ranked 440 p4p, 475 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Ungar's choice of entrance music: Wolf Totem. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Barnabas Ungar!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Picard stuffs the takedown attempt from Ungar. Ungar gets slowly back to his feet.

Ungar shoots for a takedown but Picard saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Picard throws a hook to the side of Ungar's head but Ungar sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

And Ungar tries to counter it with a takedown but Picard pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Horrible takedown attempt by Ungar or perhaps it was just good defense by Picard, which made it look bad.
Jean Luc Picard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Barnabas Ungar.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ungar throws a leg kick but Picard sees it coming and checks it nicely.
It looked like Picard wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Ungar misses with a wild body shot.
Picard feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Ungars jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Ungar changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Picard tries to avoid it but Ungar manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Picard to the ground. Picard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Ungar lands a nice shot that snaps Picard's head back.
Ungar tries to clinch but Picard moves out of range.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ungar lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Picard circles away quickly and effectively.

Picard is rocked!
Picard is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Ungar shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Picard takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Ungar sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Picard bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Barnabas Ungar!
Barnabas Ungar was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
Jean Luc Picard spoke after the fight, saying 'It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. That is not weakness, that is life.'.
