Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Tabak (ranked 3467 p4p, 4637 weight class) and Akeem Lew (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akeem Lew has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mirko Tabak! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Akeem Lew! The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tabak jabbing away but nothing is landing. Excellent takedown into side control there by Lew. Lew remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Lew tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tabak is trying to escape the position but Lew is controlling the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lew working away. Tabak on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tabak tries to get out of the position. Lew lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Lew cracks Tabak with a big right hand but Tabak just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Lew tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lew has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Lew decides to stand back up. Lew steps back and let's Tabak get back to his feet. Lew closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Tabak tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops. Lew biding his time, controlling Tabak.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lew is looking for the choke from the back position but Tabak is controlling his hands well.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tabak is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Lew.
Lew scores with some strikes to the side of the head there. Good, points scoring shots.
Lew has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Tabak's body.
Lew scores with a nice shot to the head of his opponent. Tabak is looking for a way out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lew slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Lew looking to break Tabak's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Tabak remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Lew will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke! Lew is punishing Tabak with strikes - can he finish him?! Lew has Tabak flattened out and is raining down punches. Tabak is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Lew gets his way!
Tabak defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Lew's arms. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Akeem Lew dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action! Tabak is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot. Lew is looking to clinch but Tabak is avoiding it.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lew is defended easily by Tabak. It looked like Tabak wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. Tabak scores with a crisp jab that stopped Lew in his tracks. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lew shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tabak's guard. Lew avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lew gets to his feet - Tabak follows without any prompting. Tabak scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Lew doesn't seem bothered though. Tabak lands with an overhand left. Tabak is looking to clinch. It seemed like Lew was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Tabak works the jab nicely. Lew misses with a takedown attempt - Tabak sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Tabak swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect. Lew is breathing heavily. Tabak missing with a left hand there. Lew was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Tabak throws a body shot but no joy.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tabak lands a body shot.
Tabak lands a jab to the head.
Lew takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Tabak misses with a straight left. Lew throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Tabak tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Lew is in Tabak's guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Tabak wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Lew manages to pass to side control. Lew controlling the pace. Tabak is trying to stand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lew perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Lew works his foot free and advances to mount. Tabak tries to lock up and control but Lew gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Lew won't let Tabak get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now. Tabak is squirming around, avoiding Lew's attempts to control the action.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Tabak blocking the ground and pound. Tabak gets back to half guard. Lew decides to return to a standing position. Tabak throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Lew changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Tabak scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Tabak ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Tabak just misses with a punch to the body.
Tabak sets himself, and Lew steps forward looking for the clinch! Tabak avoids it this time. Tabak jabbing away but nothing is landing. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Mirko Tabak dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round! Lew closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Lew keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tabak. Mirko Tabak is winning the standup battle so far. Lew avoids the body shot from Tabak.
Lew has Tabak up against the cage in a clinch.
Tabak displaying some good clinch control by pressing Lew up against the cage. Tabak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tabak throws a nice looking combination but Lew bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Lew looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Tabak is looking to get back to is feet but Lew passes into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tabak tries to get back to half guard but can't. Lew cracks Tabak with an elbow. That is naaassty. Lew stands up. Lew closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Lew moves in looking to clinch but Tabak pushes him off. Mirko Tabak is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Lew shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Lew showed some decent athleticism there.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lew perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Lew is trying to control. Tabak wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Lew is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Tabak sees it coming and defends easily. Lew postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Tabak to stand up. A looping hook to the body misses from Tabak. Lew does a little dance to reset his feet. And Lew tries to counter it with a takedown but Tabak pushes his down on his head and steps out. Lew avoids the body shot from Tabak.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lew shoots in but no luck this time. Lew uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Tabak. Lew tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Tabak manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Tabak throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Nice shot by Tabak. Tabak looks to throw the jab but Lew is out of range. Tabak scores with a punch to the head. Tabak looks to land a left hand but Lew moved out of range nicely. Tabak misses with a straight right. Lew keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tabak thows a left - swing and a miss! Tabak fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Lew throws a head kick that misses. A little feinted left hand from Tabak on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Tabak defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lew. Tabak throws a big shot that misses. Lew is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Jab by Tabak. Tabak stuns Lew with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Tabak connects with a good right hand that stumbles Lew. Lew circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Tabak uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Tabak tries to bum rush Lew with a series of wild strikes but Lew uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Tabak looks to land a right hand but Lew moved out of range.
And that's the end of the fight! Mirko Tabak showed his dominance in that final round. I think Tabak has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
