Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Owen Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jane Malley!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Dean Styles and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alvarez misses the jab.
Alvarez falls off balance throwing a combination
and Malley counters with a low kick, right behind Alvarez 's knee.
Malley throws a front kick aimed at Alvarez's knee but Alvarez avoids it well.
Malley takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
We've been informed that Malley has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Alvarez doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Malley counters with a good low kick that Alvarez was not able to check.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Alvarez closes the distance and pushes Malley back into the cage.
Alvarez gets through Malley's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.

Alvarez has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Malley is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Malley manages to break the clinch.
Malley pivots, looking for a leg kick but Alvarez is out of range and Malley settles back down.

Malley looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Alvarez goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Alvarez shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Owen Alvarez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Malley's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Malley lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Alvarez at a distance.
Jane Malley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Alvarez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Alvarez shoots for a double leg takedown but Malley sprawls well. He's pushed Alvarez's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Malley pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Malley throws a head kick that lands with a deafening thwack! The crowd roars as Alvarez stumbles backwards and falls to the mat. Malley follows into mount!

Alvarez is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Alvarez is trying to escape the mount.
Oh Alvarez is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Alvarez slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Alvarez seems to have got his legs back now.

Malley wants to control but Alvarez is keeping him busy.

Alvarez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Malley doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Malley manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well, if Alvarez is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Alvarez loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Malley wants to improve his position but Alvarez is controlling well.

Alvarez winds up and cracks Malley with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Malley connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Alvarez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Malley feints a counter leg kick.
Alvarez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
It seemed like Malley was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Malley misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
As Malley tries to get set, Alvarez tries to push him back and clinch up but Malley manages to avoid the attempt.
Malley is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Alvarez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Malley moves out of range as Alvarez strikes.
Malley looks like he wants to counter punch here.

The fighters circle momentarily. Alvarez darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Alvarez tries to clinch but Malley moves out of range.
Alvarez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Malley manages to avoid it.
Malley loads up on a big right hand but Alvarez slips the punch.
Jane Malley seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Malley takes a jab right on the kisser.
Alvarez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Malley swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Nice straight punches there by Alvarez. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Alvarez.
This has been an exciting period of action!

and Alvarez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
I was talking to Alvarez's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Both guys are working to get underhooks.

Alvarez has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Malley clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Malley tries to roll but Alvarez sticks to his back.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Alvarez's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Malley seems to have recovered his senses.
Alvarez is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Alvarez gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Alvarez gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Alvarez apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Owen Alvarez showed his dominance in that final round.

Owen Alvarez decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
