PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rupert Helenius (ranked 2586 p4p, 1917 weight class) and Chief Chumbo (ranked 345 p4p, 268 weight class). The key to victory for Rupert Helenius has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Rupert Helenius!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Chief Chumbo!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Marco Blurström and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helenius thows a left - swing and a miss!
Chumbo throws a body punch but Helenius moves out of range.
A slow jab from Helenius misses its intended target.
Helenius fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Chumbo on the side of the head.
Helenius connects with a leg kick.
Chumbo connects with a single shot there.

Chumbo feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Chumbo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chumbo missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Chumbo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Helenius works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Chumbo looking to sit in guard and control but Helenius gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Chumbo tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Helenius is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Helenius wants to control from the top but Chumbo keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Helenius won't allow Chumbo to sweep him here.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Chumbo is adopting a defensive guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Helenius throws an off balance right hand

so Chumbo counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Helenius avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Helenius controls Chumbo momentarily but Chumbo frees himself.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Helenius escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chumbo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Chumbo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Chumbo works over Helenius with some ground and pound from guard.
Chumbo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Helenius works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Helenius seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Chumbo throws a big elbow that misses.
Helenius preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Chumbo is in close to Helenius's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Chumbo stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Helenius throws up his legs and catches Chumbo in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Chumbo tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Helenius! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Rupert Helenius!
A relieved looking Rupert Helenius thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
