PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Wade McClung (ranked 4676 p4p, 4956 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wade McClung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jones shoots in and bounces McClung off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
McClung wants to get back to his feet but Jones passes into half guard.

McClung wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McClung tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Jones has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jones is going oldschool here, as he tries to force McClung to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so McClung shrugs it off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McClung really wants to buck Jones off and get back to his feet.
McClung might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Jones landing punches.
McClung tries to lock up and control but Jones gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
BOOM! Jones connects with a massive shot to the dome!
McClung really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Jones postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. McClung looks a forlorn figure.

McClung is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

The referee warns McClung that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
McClung is trying desperately to improve position.

Jones fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
McClung on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if McClung tries to get out of the position.

Jones is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, McClung has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Jones can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as McClung is looking to escape.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Jones fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging McClung to the ground. Jones is now in McClung's guard.
McClung wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.

McClung is working hard here to advance position.

Jones wants to stand but McClung has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Jones loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
McClung not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
McClung fails in his attempt to clinch.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

McClung looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
McClung throwing strikes but missing.
Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Jones tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Jones keeping moving, preventing McClung from controlling successfully.
Jones wants to stand and escape but McClung is having none of it.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Jones looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
McClung trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
McClung moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged McClung in a clinch.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Jones's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
McClung is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Jones holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Jones tries to kick McClung off but McClung keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

McClung is trying to work for a kimura but Jones is defending well.
Jones wants to improve his position but McClung is controlling well.

McClung tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Jones.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jones slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Jones is controlling McClung's posture.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! McClung's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Jones looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for McClung!

McClung sneaks out the side door and pushes Jones away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McClung on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Jones is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Jones tries to stand but his hand is stuck under McClung.

Jones seems to be looking for submissions.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jones is trying to control the action in half guard but McClung is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Jones tries to stand but can't do so whilst McClung controls his leg.
Jones uses his free foot to push down on McClung's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for McClung.

Jones goes for an armbar but McClung turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from McClung.
McClung tries to free his leg and advance position but Jones is retaining full guard.

McClung looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
