And in the blue corner, fighting out of Hilo, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Jose Garcilazo! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Barella clinches. Barella fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Garcilazo is defending well against a takedown attempt. Barella changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Garcilazo fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Let's hope that Garcilazo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Garcilazo.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Garcilazo is working for a guillotine from mount but Barella frees his head quite easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round. It looks like Garcilazo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Barella sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Barella actively working from the bottom here. Barella is breathing heavily. Garcilazo is taking a breather. Barella says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Garcilazo tries to pass to full mount but Barella defends it. Garcilazo seems to be working for a kimura but Barella defends the submission attempt. Garcilazo performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Garcilazo wants to work for an arm triangle but Barella is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Garcilazo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
