PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Boaler (ranked 692 p4p, 353 weight class) and Aaron Wolf (ranked 100 p4p, 54 weight class). Aaron Wolf will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jonathan Boaler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Aaron Wolf!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boaler throws a hook to the side of Wolf's head but Wolf sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Wolf is looking for the big counter here.
Wolf slips a jab and a cross from Boaler.
Boaler fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wolf throws a sloppy head kick
and Boaler connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Boaler has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Wolf avoids the body shot from Boaler.
A little jabbing left from Wolf on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Boaler fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Boaler throws a body shot but no joy.
Wolf unleashes a big counter combination but Boaler bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boaler shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Boaler showed some decent athleticism there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Boaler tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wolf knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Boaler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wolf keeps working.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Boaler in particular looking to stall.
Boaler seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Wolf does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Boaler is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Wolf moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Wolf working for a triangle but Boaler defends it easily.
Wolf can't keep his opponent in guard - Boaler advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Wolf tries to get to full guard but Boaler has control of the leg.
Boaler is pressing down on Wolf's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wolf is holding on for now.
Wolf manages to get to full guard.

Boaler got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wolf has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Boaler has managed to get both his arms back between Wolf's legs - danger averted.

Boaler is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Wolf slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boaler passes into half guard.
Boaler tries to pass the half guard into mount. Wolf knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Boaler wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wolf keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wolf keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Wolf moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Boaler trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Boaler thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Wolf throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Boaler escapes and throws Wolf's legs to the side, diving into side control!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Boaler thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Boaler looks to score with a jab to the body but Wolf is just out of range.
An inside leg kick lands from Wolf.
Boaler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Wolf throws out a counter right but Boaler avoids it with no problem.
Boaler ducks right into an uppercut from Wolf.
Boaler lands a nice hook to Wolf's body. Wolf takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Jonathan Boaler seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Boaler misses with a combination
and Wolf counters with a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wolf lands a jab to Boaler's midsection.

and Wolf counters with a straight right hand.
Wolf blocks a jab.
Boaler walks straight into a right hand from Wolf - that's dropped him! Wolf jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Boaler from any more punishment! Boaler complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
