PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Christopher Irwin (ranked 1803 p4p, 2043 weight class) and Norris Chow (ranked 187 p4p, 209 weight class). Norris Chow will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Christopher Irwin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Norris Chow!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chow closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Chow lands in his opponent's guard.

Irwin manages to escape and get back to his feet.

Chow gets caught napping as Irwin dives in and scores a takedown. Chow manages to retain guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Irwin seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Chow for as long as he can get away with.

Irwin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chow swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Chow is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Irwin pulls his head out easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Irwin looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Chow is looking for a sweep. Irwin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chow throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Irwin.
Irwin blocks a head kick by Chow.
Chow throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Irwin.

Irwin closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Irwin takes a little break here. Chow wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Irwin is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Irwin has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Christopher Irwin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Irwin closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chow to the mat! Chow manages to get full guard.
Irwin is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Irwin is pushing down on Chow's leg trying to pass to half guard. Chow is fighting to maintain full guard but Irwin has managed to sneak the leg through.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Chow throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Irwin on the side of the head.

Irwin has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

and Chow connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Chow stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Chow wants it to stay on the feet.
Irwin shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Chow fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Irwin has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Irwin shoots in and drives through. Chow sprawls well.
Chow lands with a slapping head kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Irwin is defended easily by Chow.
Chow feints a jab and as Irwin dips his head, Chow unleashes a brutal head kick that catches Irwin right on the jaw! Timbeeer! Irwin falls backwards in slow motion, only propped up by the cage! Chow smiles a psychotic smile as he stares down his unconscious opponent. That is a scary man.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Norris Chow!
