PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Papi Squalli (ranked 4699 p4p, 4612 weight class) and Johnny Longboat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Papi Squalli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Longboat!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Sandra Marshall and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Longboat darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Longboat moves into full mount! Squalli won't be happy about that!

Longboat is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Squalli lands a jab to the head.
A right-left combo lands from Squalli.
Squalli throws a combination. Longboat tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Longboat is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Squalli's half guard.

Squalli makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
A left and a right from Squalli both land. Nice combination.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Squalli closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Longboat prevents Squalli from breaking the clinch.
Longboat wants a takedown.

Longboat wants the takedown. Squalli is fighting it off but Longboat persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Squalli's guard against the cage.
Squalli is looking to stand back up but Longboat counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Squalli.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Longboat is taking a breather. Squalli says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Longboat decides to stand up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Longboat is defended easily by Squalli.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Squalli moves into the clinch.
Longboat can't get the takedown.
Papi Squalli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Longboat.

Longboat gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Squalli regains guard.
Longboat seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Squalli is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Longboat slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Longboat passes Squalli's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Squalli is breathing heavily.
Longboat works his foot free and advances to mount.
Longboat moves to the back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

It looks like Longboat might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Papi Squalli will probably get the nod.
That's time! Squalli's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Longboat closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Squalli on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Squalli tries to get out of the position.
Squalli is looking to escape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Longboat is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Squalli!
Longboat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Longboat is continuing to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Longboat gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
Papi Squalli seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Squalli buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Longboat will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
It looked like Squalli was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Squalli moves into the clinch.
Squalli is pressed up against the cage. Longboat has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Squalli down to the mat. Squalli avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Longboat shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Squalli pinned against the cage. Squalli gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Papi Squalli has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Longboat.

Longboat gets the takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Longboat slows the pace down.
Longboat moves into full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Longboat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Longboat stands up from mount. Strange move.
Squalli motions for Longboat to come forward. Squalli throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Squalli closes the distance and clinches.
Longboat tries for a takedown but Squalli manages to get underhooks.
Longboat has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Squalli avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Longboat has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Squalli clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Longboat slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Longboat has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Longboat's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
More stalling from Longboat.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Johnny Longboat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Longboat gets a double leg takedown into Squalli's guard.
Longboat controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Squalli wants to stand up but Longboat is controlling him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Longboat stands up and waves to Squalli to follow him.
Papi Squalli is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Longboat takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Longboat shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Squalli defends it nicely.

Longboat shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Longboat was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Squalli tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
Longboat tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Longboat moves to back control.
Squalli trying to get back to his feet but Longboat is in full control for now.
Longboat has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Squalli's body.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Longboat with more of the same as he continues to hold on.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
Johnny Longboat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Longboat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
