The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mir shoots in and gets a takedown into Shipwrecks's guard. Mir keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shipwrecks's head. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mir won't allow Shipwrecks to get back to his feet. Mir engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Mir's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Let's hope that Mir has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Mir. Shipwrecks wants to get back to his feet but Mir passes into half guard.
Mir is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shipwrecks wants to get back to his feet.
Mir is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shipwrecks defends it well. Shipwrecks is kicking away at Mir from the bottom - trying to push off and stand up. Mir grabs hold of a leg and drops back for a heel hook! The two fighters roll across the mat, with Shipwrecks trying to push Mir off... Shipwrecks taps! He's tapped! This one is all over! A throwback to the old Pancrase there with an infrequently seen submission hold! Nice work.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:36 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Frank Mir!
