PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pierre Bernard (ranked 3200 p4p, 3894 weight class) and Joseph Allen (ranked 414 p4p, 473 weight class). Allen comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Vigiliand - UFO kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Pierre Bernard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joseph Allen!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bernard slips under a jab.
Allen shoots in looking for a takedown but Bernard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Allen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Bernard feinted with a counter takedown.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Allen.
Allen misses with a lunging right hand
and Bernard counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Allen thinking.

Bernard gets tackled into the cage by Allen. Allen maintains the clinch.
Bernard is trying to pull guard but Allen turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Allen tightens his grip and picks Bernard up, before dumping him to the ground. Bernard manages to land in guard.

Bernard has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Allen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Bernard is looking to take this one to the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Allen is pressed up against the cage. Bernard has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Allen down to the mat. Allen avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pierre Bernard. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Allen has his takedown stuffed
and Bernard counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Allen shoots in looking for a takedown but Bernard manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Allen's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
We've been told by Bernard's head coaches at DK MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Allen clinches up with Bernard and pushes him back against the cage.

Bernard manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Allen postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bernard is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Allen is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Allen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Allen chips away with some ground and pound.
Allen throwing strikes but missing.
Allen working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Bernard's head.
Allen forces his way into half guard.
Bernard wants to control but Allen is keeping busy.
Bernard taking some punishment here, with Allen in his half guard.
Allen trying to control from half guard but Bernard is working away.
Allen is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bernard blocking the ground and pound attempt from Allen.

Bernard is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Allen pulls his head out easily.
In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Allen working his ground and pound in the gym.
Allen performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Bernard tries to get to full guard but Allen has control of the leg.
Allen drops an elbow to the side of Bernard's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Allen lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Allen is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Allen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bernard with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Allen uses his free foot to push down on Bernard's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Bernard.
Bernard tries to reverse the position but Allen maintains control.
Allen lands a nice shot to the head.
Allen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Bernard's face.

Bernard is rocked!
Allen lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Bernard! Allen sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Bernard and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Joseph Allen!
Joseph Allen was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
