Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bernado Rodriguez (ranked 5764 p4p, 4705 weight class) and Maki Peric (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Bernado Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Maki Peric!
The judges for this bout are Dirk Anderson, Sandra Marshall and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Perics jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Rodriguez throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

It looks like Maki Peric has been cut.

Rodriguez looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Peric!
You can see the frustration on Peric's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rodriguez tries to score with some ground and pound. Peric controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Rodriguez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Peric can't do much from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rodriguez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Peric to his feet.

Rodriguez circles away from the clinch attempt.
Rodriguez throws a front kick that sends Peric stumbling back into the cage.

Rodriguez closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Peric quickly recovers to half guard.
Rodriguez slips a nice elbow through Peric's hands, connecting with Peric's forehead.
Peric has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rodriguez is working away from the top position though.
Peric is looking to improve his position.

Rodriguez is looking for a kimura but Peric is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rodriguez to get the leverage.
Peric lands with a few short shots to the body.

Rodriguez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Peric works his way to full guard. Good work.
Peric is trying to control the position but Rodriguez postures up.

Rodriguez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Rodriguez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rodriguez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Peric wants to control but Rodriguez postures up.
Peric is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Peric wants to improve his position but Rodriguez is controlling well.

Rodriguez gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Rodriguez fails with an attempt to clinch.
Peric tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Peric looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Rodriguez throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Peric looks winded!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Peric tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Rodriguez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Rodriguez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Peric to the ground. Rodriguez is now in Peric's guard.
Rodriguez lands a couple of elbows.

Peric is looking for a triangle but Rodriguez pushes his legs off easily.
Rodriguez lands a couple of elbows.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Peric is working an open guard so Rodriguez takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Rodriguez lands a two punch combo.
A right-left combo lands from Rodriguez.
Rodriguez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Rodriguez throws a sloppy head kick and Peric moves out of range easily.

Rodriguez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rodriguez showed some decent athleticism there.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Bernado Rodriguez dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Maki Peric's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Peric has closed the distance and engaged Rodriguez in a clinch.
Rodriguez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Peric has him pressed against the cage.
Rodriguez wants to break free but Peric has control.
Peric looking for a takedown.

Peric breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Rodriguez swinging wildly here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Peric goes for a double leg but Rodriguez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Rodriguez continues to drive forward.

Rodriguez gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Peric in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rodriguez wants to stand up but Peric is controlling him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rodriguez manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Rodriguez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Rodriguez works over Peric's head and body with a nice combination.
Rodriguez sizes up Peric with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Rodriguez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rodriguez tries a head kick but it misses.
Rodriguez lands with a shot to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Peric dodges the punch combination from Rodriguez.
Jab by Rodriguez.
Rodriguez throws a half hearted mid kick.
Rodriguez fails to land with a series of punches.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rodriguez misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bernado Rodriguez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Peric avoids the head kick by Rodriguez.
Peric will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bernado Rodriguez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maki Peric.
Peric circles away from the clinch attempt.

Peric shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Peric was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rodriguez is looking to get back to his feet here but Peric is keeping cool and he's managed to take Rodriguez's back.
Peric biding his time, looking for the opening.

Peric has managed to slip his arm under Rodriguez's chin. This could be all over... yep, Rodriguez is tapping out! Submission win for Peric.
