Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bwana Effiong! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Idelmar Quintanilha! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Arvi Lind and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quintanilha closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Quintanilha lands in his opponent's guard. Quintanilha content to stall in guard here. Quintanilha scoring with punches to the head and body. Effiong wants to stand and escape but Quintanilha is having none of it. Quintanilha scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Effiong throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Quintanilha sitting in guard, not really doing much. Quintanilha has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Effiong has momentary wrist control but Quintanilha slips an elbow through the middle. Effiong controls Quintanilha momentarily but Quintanilha frees himself. Effiong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Quintanilha on the ground. Quintanilha slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Quintanilha landing with the ground and pound. Quintanilha looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Quintanilha's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Effiong will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Effiong working for a triangle but Quintanilha defends it easily.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Effiong misses with a leg kick and Quintanilha counters with a nice double leg into side control. Effiong won't be happy with that. Effiong taking punishment in the form of punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Effiong pushes Quintanilha away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Quintanilha gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Quintanilha controlling the position. Quintanilha working the head with strikes.
Effiong is rocked! Quintanilha moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Quintanilha lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Oh Effiong is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! A big shot lands for Quintanilha! That's hurt Effiong! Will he recover? Quintanilha fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
