PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Al Cloutier (ranked 3940 p4p, 5184 weight class) and Alex Harper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alex Harper has the eye of the tiger tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Al Cloutier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Harper!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harper moves away from the strike by Cloutier.
Cloutier bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Cloutier throws an overhand right that lands on Harper's shoulder, as Harper tries to avoid the shot.
Cloutier misses with a left hand

and Harper counters with a shoot takedown. Cloutier fights it but they end up in guard.
Harper engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Cloutier preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Harper slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

An elbow from Harper crashes against the mat.
Harper in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
A lull in the action here as Harper stalls from top position.
It looks like Harper might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Harper tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Harper has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Harper decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Cloutier throws a jab but it's blocked by Harper.
Cloutier swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Harper takes the fight into the clinch.
Harper lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Harper changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Cloutier fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Harper tries to close the distance and clinch up but Cloutier swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Cloutier connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Harper looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Cloutier!

Harper stands up.
Cloutier throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Harper counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Harper.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Harper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Harper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Harper stays in close to Cloutier's body and controls the position.
Cloutier can't keep his opponent in guard - Harper advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Harper looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action!

Cloutier lands with a cross.

Harper fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cloutier, pushing him back against the cage.

Harper tries to pull guard but Cloutier forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cloutier keeps control of Harper as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Harper tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Cloutier avoids it.

Harper can't get the takedown.
Cloutier is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Harper is keeping busy.
Harper drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cloutier pulls his leg out and moves away.
Al Cloutier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Harper.
Harper has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Harper there as he acknowledges the shot.

Harper rushes Cloutier and presses him up against the cage.
Harper has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Harper can't get the takedown.
Harper is trying to pull guard but Cloutier has him pressed against the cage.

Harper jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cloutier walks away with a smile on his face. Harper gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Harper decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cloutier's guard.

Harper's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Cloutier might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Harper's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Cloutier pushes Harper off and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cloutier waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Harper.
Harper moves out of range as Cloutier strikes.
Cloutier misses with a hook.
Cloutier throws a lazy right hand but Harper sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Harper shoots in and gets a takedown into Cloutier's guard.
Alex Harper has got the better of the ground game so far.
Harper controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Al Cloutier will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Harper moves into the clinch successfully.
A frustrated look appears on Harper's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Harper jumps guard but Cloutier stands there with Harper around his waist. Harper gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Cloutier stops a takedown attempt from Harper.
Al Cloutier has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex Harper.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Harper jumps guard but Cloutier stands there with Harper around his waist. Harper gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Harper is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Cloutier gets underhooks to prevent Harper's takedown attempt.
Harper is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Cloutier pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Harper jumps guard and drags Cloutier to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Harper has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Harper thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Harper manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cloutier manages to get himself to full guard.

Harper passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Harper is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Harper comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Harper has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
