Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Crusty Pelican! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Angel Torres! The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Torres closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Pelican trying to control here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pelican moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Torres preventing the sweep. Pelican is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Pelican trying to control the position.
Pelican looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Torres drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Torres jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pelican isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Torres stacks Pelican on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Torres! Torres tries for a kimura but Pelican is defending well. Pelican manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Torres is keen to just control but Pelican is a slippery customer. Pelican actively working from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Pelican tries to get to full guard but Torres has control of the leg. Torres throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Pelican trying to control from the bottom.
Torres seems to be looking for submissions.
Torres prevents Pelican from improving his position. Pelican is breathing heavily.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Torres shoots in but Pelican avoids the takedown attempt easily. Pelican has managed to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Torres gets underhooks to prevent Pelican's takedown attempt.
Torres fails to pull guard.
Torres jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Pelican walks away with a smile on his face. Torres gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Crusty Pelican has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Angel Torres. Pelican darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Pelican throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Torres is looking for a sweep. Pelican is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Torres gets back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Pelican trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Torres manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Pelican throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Torres escapes and throws Pelican's legs to the side, diving into side control! Pelican is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Torres is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Torres manages to capitalize on a mistake by Pelican to take his back! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Crusty Pelican will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Torres drives through with a takedown into guard. Torres won't allow Pelican to sweep him here. Pelican wants to improve his position but instead Torres has moved into half guard.
Torres wants to pass to mount but Pelican is defending the position. Pelican is trying to control but Torres manages to pass to mount!
Torres looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Pelican tries to reverse the position but Torres maintains control. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Torres is working for a guillotine from mount but Pelican frees his head quite easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Pelican passes Torres's left leg - he's now in half guard. Pelican trying to control from half guard but Torres is working away. Pelican working Torres over with strikes. Pelican has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Pelican moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Torres has worked his arm free - good work by Torres!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pelican is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Torres knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Torres is looking to regain half guard here but Pelican keeps moving and retains side control. Torres managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Pelican.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Pelican looking to control but instead Torres has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard. Pelican seems to be working for a kimura but Torres defends the submission attempt. Pelican is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Torres sees it coming and defends easily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Torres looking for submissions off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Angel Torres showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!
Torres closes the distance but Pelican moves to the side and Pelican counters with a shoot takedown. Torres fights it but they end up in guard. Torres had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Pelican is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Torres Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Pelican's back instead. Pelican trying to control the hands but Torres breaks the grip. Pelican rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Pelican is trying to get back to full guard. Pelican strikes from the bottom but Torres uses the opportunity to move to side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Torres working away. Pelican sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Pelican slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Torres wants to pass the guard but Pelican is keeping the position. Pelican is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Torres can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Torres slips nicely into half guard. Torres blocks the strikes from Pelican.

Pelican might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Torres is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Pelican actively working from the bottom here. Pelican has a hand on Torres's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Torres takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Pelican keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Pelican is working hard here to advance position. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Pelican tries to lock up and control but Torres gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Torres working Pelican over with strikes here.
And that's the end of the fight! Crusty Pelican showed his dominance in that final round. Well Pelican has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
