Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pete Ashworth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Robertson!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Darius Henderson and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Robertson with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Ashworth tries to bum rush Robertson with a series of wild strikes but Robertson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ashworth tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Robertson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Ashworth is looking to clinch but Robertson is avoiding it.
Ashworth tries to clinch but Robertson moves out of range.
Robertson avoids the head kick by Ashworth.

Robertson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ashworth sprawls well initially but Robertson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Robertson is working for a kimura but Ashworth is defending it quite comfortably.
Ashworth is looking for a sweep. Robertson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ashworth moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Robertson gets to his feet - Ashworth follows without any prompting.
Robertson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Robertson wants to clinch up but Ashworth keeps it at a distance.
Pete Ashworth seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ashworth fails with the takedown
and Robertson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Oooh a lovely combination from Robertson sends Ashworth down but not out. Robertson dives into side control looking to finish.

It looks like Pete Ashworth has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Robertson is putting a hurting on Ashworth here, landing some big shots from side control.
Ashworth is looking to reverse the position.
You can see the frustration on Ashworth's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Robertson is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Ashworth has escaped the position, nice work there.

Ashworth avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Robertson wants to pass the guard but Ashworth is keeping the position.

Robertson throws a big right hand that misses.

Robertson keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ashworth's head.
Robertson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Ashworth bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Robertson's guard.

Robertson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ashworth. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ashworth is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Robertson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Ashworth is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Robertson.

Ashworth is trying to get an arm triangle but Robertson is defending well.

Ashworth controls the position.
Robertson is looking to reverse the position.

Ashworth tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ashworth has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Robertson throws a body kick that misses.
Ashworth is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Ashworth tries for a takedown but Robertson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Robertson throws a hook but Ashworth blocks it.
Ashworth attempts a counter takedown but Robertson avoids it well and moves away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ashworth.
Robertson moves in looking to clinch but Ashworth pushes him off.

Ashworth throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Robertson was covering up waiting for the punch and Ashworth finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ashworth is looking to work some ground and pound but Robertson has wrist control.

Ashworth controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ashworth passes Robertson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ashworth is keen to just control but Robertson is a slippery customer.

Ashworth is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Robertson looking for subs from the bottom but Ashworth mounts him!

Robertson is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Ashworth controlling from the full mount.

Ashworth is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Robertson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Robertson!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Robertson's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ashworth preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Robertson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Ashworth, up you get!
Ashworth throws a head kick but Robertson moves out of range.
It seemed like Robertson was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Ashworth manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Robertson on his heels. He'll look to pass Robertson's guard now, I'm sure.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ashworth is looking to stand up but Robertson won't let him.

Robertson is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Ashworth frees his head nicely. Oh but Robertson has switched to an armbar! Ashworth is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
