Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Philip Driver! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ben Askrew! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Driver misses with a body shot.
Driver tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Askrew was well out of range. Poor timing from Driver. A punch combination from Driver misses. Driver dips to his left and cracks Askrew with an uppercut! Askrew dodges the punch combination from Driver.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Driver thuds his right hand into Askrew's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
That's one minute gone in the round. Driver lands with an overhand left. Driver connects with a single shot there. Driver fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Askrew on the side of the head. Driver scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Driver just misses with a punch to the body.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Driver scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard. Driver lands a jab. Driver tests Askrew's chin there with a solid looking shot. Driver scores with a jab to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Driver cracks Askrew with an open hand slap. Driver connects with a nice looking jab.
Driver moves into range and connects with a jab. Driver scores with a hook to the body. Askrew takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. It looks like Driver has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him. Driver lands a nice looking body shot.
Askrew takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. Askrew looks winded!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Driver jabs Askrew to the body, keeping him at a distance. Askrew gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Driver lands a big uppercut and Askrew crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Askrew looks OK. Driver waves Askrew back to his feet!
Askrew is rocked!
It looks like Ben Askrew has been cut. Philip Driver seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Driver lands an uppercut, right on the button! Askrew tumbles backwards into the cage, staring vacantly into space! He's got no idea where he is, who he is or what day it is... Poor guy.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Philip Driver! Our winner, Philip Driver, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
