PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Quintet Tarantino (ranked 918 p4p, 1526 weight class) and Enzo Mendoza (ranked 120 p4p, 204 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Quintet Tarantino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Enzo Mendoza!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Russell Pearce and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tarantino misses with a hook. Mendoza ducked under it nicely.

It seemed like Mendoza was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Tarantino is looking to clinch but Mendoza is avoiding it.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Mendoza! But no joy.
Tarantino bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Mendoza's head.

Tarantino closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Mendoza's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Mendoza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Tarantino. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Tarantino is pushing down on Mendoza's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mendoza is fighting to maintain full guard but Tarantino has managed to sneak the leg through.

We've been hearing good reports from Tarantino's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Tarantino throws a strike but Mendoza rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Tarantino looking for a triangle here. Mendoza is fighting it but it looks tight! Tarantino pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Mendoza is tapping out - this one is all over!

A relieved looking Quintet Tarantino thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
