PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between michael woodhead (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Monty Panesar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that michael woodhead has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily michael woodhead seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, michael woodhead!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Monty Panesar!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Summer Carpenter and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Panesar swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
woodhead shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Panesar as he avoids it easily.
woodhead slips under a jab from Panesar.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Panesar.
Panesar stuns woodhead with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Panesar moves into the clinch.
woodhead can't get the takedown.

Panesar drags the fight down to the ground.

Panesar pushes woodhead off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
woodhead really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
A good leg kick by Panesar.
woodhead is breathing heavily.
Panesar throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by woodhead.

Panesar shoots in and bounces woodhead off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Panesar stands and steps away. woodhead gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Panesar shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Panesar showed some decent athleticism there.
Panesar is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Panesar looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Panesar tries to pass to full mount but woodhead defends it.

Panesar wants to work for an arm triangle but woodhead is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Panesar seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
woodhead looks like he's trying to stand up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
woodhead is trying to stand back up but Panesar is controlling him
Panesar takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Let's hope that Panesar has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
woodhead trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

woodhead wants to get back to his feet.

Monty Panesar dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Panesar won't allow woodhead to get back to his feet.
Panesar cracks woodhead with a solid left hand.
Panesar stops woodhead from standing up.
woodhead will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Well, if Panesar is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Panesar content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
woodhead pushes Panesar off looking to stand but Panesar dives back in and keeps control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Despite being in the dominant position, Monty Panesar just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Panesar fails to land the takedown.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Panesar tries for a takedown but woodhead sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
woodhead gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Panesar counters with a takedown into side control.
Panesar scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at woodhead to see if he's OK.
Panesar is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

woodhead is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Panesar asserts his dominance and retains side control.
You can see the frustration on woodhead's face as Panesar controls the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Panesar closes the distance and clinches.

woodhead drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Panesar gets the underhooks and prevents it.
woodhead can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for michael woodhead. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Panesar jumps guard and drags woodhead to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

woodhead gets to his feet. Panesar looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monty Panesar showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Panesar throws a series of punches but woodhead moves out of range.
woodhead has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
A slapping leg kick lands for Panesar.

Panesar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
woodhead is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Panesar dives into side control.
woodhead tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Panesar biding his time, looking for the opening.

woodhead is trying to get back to his feet but Panesar has full control of the position and if anything, woodhead has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Panesar is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

woodhead is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.

Panesar fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with woodhead, pushing him back against the cage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Panesar prevents a takedown attempt there.

Panesar ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Panesar no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Panesar has a closed guard, preventing woodhead from standing up.

woodhead decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Panesar pushes woodhead up against the cage in a clinch.
woodhead tries for a takedown but Panesar manages to get underhooks.

Panesar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Panesar closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming woodhead to the mat! woodhead manages to get full guard.
woodhead is looking to stand up but Panesar isn't so interested in that idea.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Panesar trying to control the position from guard on top but woodhead is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
woodhead wants to get back to his feet but Panesar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Panesar decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Panesar scores a takedown into full mount!
woodhead is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
woodhead is controlling an arm, preventing Panesar from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
woodhead is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Panesar has taken his back!
Panesar really doesn't want to stay on the ground with woodhead. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
woodhead is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
woodhead grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.

And that's the end of the fight!
Monty Panesar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Panesar has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
