PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clubber Sang (ranked 4327 p4p, 24068 weight class) and Luke Soza (ranked 467 p4p, 608 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Clubber Sang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luke Soza!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Dillan Fox and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sang lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Sang moves into the clinch.
Sang's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Soza has Sang pressed against the cage.
Soza wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Sang has him pressed against the cage.
Soza jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sang walks away with a smile on his face. Soza gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Sang checks a leg kick.
Sang tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Soza manages to circle out of the way.
Soza tries a head kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soza misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Sang rushes Soza and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Soza manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Soza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sang's guard.

Sang wants to stand up but Soza is controlling him.
Sang knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Soza on the ground.
Soza is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sang is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Soza looking to sit in guard and control but Sang gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Sang is looking to stand up but Soza won't let him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Soza is adopting a defensive guard.
Let's hope that Soza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Sang trying to stand up but can't free himself from Soza's guard.

Soza working for a triangle but Sang defends it easily.

Sang got a little sloppy there for a moment and Soza has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Sang has managed to get both his arms back between Soza's legs - danger averted.

Soza tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Soza pulls Sang in close to his closed guard and prevents Sang from doing any damage or advancing position.
Sang wanted to stand there but Soza had control of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Soza is controlling Sang's posture.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sang shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Soza eats them both and turns towards Sang to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Soza goes for a double leg but Sang avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sang continues to drive forward.

Sang drives through and clinches with Soza against the cage.
Soza tries to score a body lock takedown but Sang shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Clubber Sang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Soza.
Sang lands a knee to the body.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Sang lands a nice uppercut.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Soza is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Sang gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Sang prevents Soza from breaking the clinch.
Sang with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sang scoring well with a low kick there.
Soza tries to close the distance and clinch but Sang swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sang seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Sang tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sang fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Soza has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Soza has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sang.
Sang turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Sang scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Sang looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Sang lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.

Sang has closed the distance and engaged Soza in a clinch.

Soza jumps into guard, dragging Sang to the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Soza not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sang tries to stand but Soza is controlling from the bottom.

Soza had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sang defends it easily.

Sang avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Soza has a closed guard, preventing Sang from standing up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Soza seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Luke Soza has got the better of the ground game so far.

Soza escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sang gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sang has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Soza is proving hard to escape from.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sang gets to his feet - Soza follows without any prompting.
Soza throws a series of strikes that have Sang backpedaling.
Soza has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Clubber Sang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Sang lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Clubber Sang is winning the standup battle so far.
Sang scores with a spinning back kick!
Soza is breathing heavily.
A good leg kick by Sang.
Sang keeps Soza at a distance using the push kick.
Sang lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Sang.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Sang has taken the fight to the clinch.

Soza goes for a takedown attempt but Sang pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Soza chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Sang can pounce on him.
Sang is looking to slow Soza down with leg kicks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Soza takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Sang rushes Soza and presses him up against the cage.
Soza is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sang to keep the fight standing.
Clubber Sang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Soza.
Sang putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Soza in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Soza takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Soza throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sang blocks it with crossed arms.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Sang will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Soza up against the cage.

Sang drops Soza with a big knee straight up the middle! Soza is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!

Soza is rocked!

It looks like Luke Soza has been cut.
Soza is starting to get sloppy and is letting his hands down. Sang just took advantage and landed a stinging jab. Oh! Now a right hook, right on the button! Soza has gone limp and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Clubber Sang!
