Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Bert Ernie! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Paul Thomas! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, James Glass and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas tries to bum rush Ernie with a series of wild strikes but Ernie uses good footwork to avoid the assault. A nice combination there by Thomas.
It looks like Bert Ernie has been cut. Thomas misses with a series of wild punches.
Some wild striking there from Thomas.
Thomas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thomas throws a series of punches but Ernie avoids them all with ease. Thomas looks gassed! Ernie drives through with a takedown into guard. Ernie has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Ernie passes Thomas's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Thomas is defending against the submission attempts here by Ernie.
Ernie is trying to work for a kimura but Thomas is defending well.
Thomas tries to kick Ernie off but Ernie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Ernie thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Ernie wants to work for an arm triangle but Thomas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ernie is looking for a kimura but Thomas is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ernie to get the leverage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ernie throwing shots but Thomas is blocking nicely. Thomas tries to kick Ernie off but Ernie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Ernie shoots in and drives through. Thomas sprawls well. Ernie fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Left hook, right uppercut from Thomas. Thomas throws a series of punches but Ernie avoids them all with ease. Thomas throws a right hand that Ernie ducks under and follows up with a left that Ernie also avoids with ease. Ernie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ernie drops back for a leg here. A bit of a high risk move... He's looking for a kneebar by the looks of things. Now both of them are looking for submissions. Ernie seems to have locked his on tight now - Thomas screams in pain and taps out furiously! It certainly was a high risk move but it's paid off for Ernie, as he picks up the win!
