The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Newton gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Karanja counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Newton looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Karanja shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Newton manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Karanja is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
