PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Juan Corona (ranked 549 p4p, 1930 weight class) and Twea King (ranked 65 p4p, 214 weight class). Corona comes to the cage accompanied by Lil Baby, Lil Durk - How It Feels. Twea King has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 2, fighting out of Montreal, Juan Corona!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 12 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Twea King!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
King darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Corona moves away from the strike by King.
Corona looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.
King digs a good body shot into Corona's ribs.
Corona tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. King manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
King swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Corona gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows King to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Corona keeping moving, preventing King from controlling successfully.
King is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Corona working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. King doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. King manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

King wants to control from the top but Corona keeps moving.

Corona controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
King showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
It looks like King might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
King throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Corona on the side of the head.
King shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Corona pinned against the cage. Corona gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A combination from King does no damage.
Corona feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Corona misses with a looping left.
Corona keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from King.
King scores with a jab to the body.
King throws a body shot but no joy.
King scores with a jab to the body.
Corona throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

King lands a right hook to the body.
King works the jab nicely.
King throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
King bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Corona tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but King was well out of range. Poor timing from Corona.
King misses with a left hand
and Corona counters with a good low kick that King was not able to check.
Corona misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from King.
King throws out a loose jab but Corona uses good head movement to avoid it.
King fails with the takedown.
Corona uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by King.
Corona fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt King.
King connects with a crisp jab.
King jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Corona lands with an overhand left.

King lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Corona lands a lovely overhand right.

King shoots in and gets a takedown into Corona's guard.
My spies in Thib's Sweat Shoppe inform me that King has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
King tries to free his leg and advance position but Corona is retaining full guard.

Corona is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. King is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Corona looking for submissions from the bottom but instead King passes into side control.
Corona is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but King is one step ahead and moves to full mount!
King tries to control but Corona wriggling away.
King content just to control the position here.
Corona is trying to escape the mount.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Twea King dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

King just misses with a punch to the body.
Corona swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
King lands with a nice body punch.
A cross from King lands.
Corona takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Corona scores with a hook.
Corona slips a jab from King.
King waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Corona.
Corona walks into a stiff left hand from King.
Corona takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
King scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Corona swings for the body but King moves out of range.
King looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Corona lands an overhand right.
King throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Corona defending well as King loads up on a big left hand.

Corona gets caught flat footed, as King shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Corona has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but King can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Corona has an active guard here but King has managed to pass into half guard.

King wants to take a breather but Corona is having none of it.

Corona has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, King escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by King!

King thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Corona is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Heartless Team , so we'll see if he gets out of it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

King is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Corona is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
You can see the frustration on Corona's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
King controls the position.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
King is looking to take a break and control but Corona is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
You can see the frustration on Corona's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Corona works King's body with a nice hook.
A shot to the liver by King. Beautiful body shot.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
King jabbing away but nothing is landing.
King throws a shot from downtown. Corona moves away and avoids it.
King scores with a shot to the body.
King throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Twea King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

and Corona makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. King really felt that one!
Corona looks to land a left hand but King moved out of range nicely.
A nice side step and King releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

King shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Corona as he avoids it easily.

Corona really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Corona, as that shot connected.
King takes a swing at Corona's ribcage but misses.
King misses with a looping left.
Corona displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from King.
Juan Corona has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Twea King.
King takes a shot to the body in his stride.
King looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
King misses with a hook. Corona ducked under it nicely.
As King tries to get set, Corona tries to push him back and clinch up but King manages to avoid the attempt.
Corona smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Corona fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.

King struggles to land a body shot inside as Corona controls his hands.

King tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
King tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Corona blocks an uppercut.
King blocking some punches.

Corona drags the fight down to the ground.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Corona will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Corona has his foot on King's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. King works his way back into a safe position though.

Corona is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Corona is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and King defends well.

Corona is looking for a triangle but King pushes his legs off easily.
Twea King is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
King is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Twea King has got the better of the ground game so far.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Corona is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
King controlling from the top position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
King misses with a looping left.
King just misses with a punch to the body.
Corona swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Juan Corona is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A bone on bone clash there as King blocks the leg kick.
A jab from King does it's job there.
Corona slips a straight right by King.
King throws a big shot that misses.
King ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Corona moves away.
Corona blocks a jab.
King throws a poor cross that misses
and Corona connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
King slips a jab from Corona.

And that's the end of the fight!
Juan Corona showed his dominance in that final round.
I think King has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
