CACC 242 PBP Commentary |
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the lightweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 0 losses; Toshi Hijikata! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Amsterdam, with a TWGC record of 7 wins and 9 losses; Billy Conforto! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Hijikata shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Conforto pinned against the cage. Conforto gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. No luck for Hijikata with that takedown attempt. Conforto drives through and clinches with Hijikata against the cage.

It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hijikata defends it well. Conforto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Hijikata is just riding it out for now. Conforto eventually gives up the hold. Hijikata has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage. Hijikata takes a little breather and maintains the position. Conforto might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hijikata haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
