This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the middleweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 5 wins and 0 losses; Giuseppe Turturro! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Los Angeles, with a TWGC record of 9 wins and 5 losses; Vartan Esteves! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Esteves shoots in and bounces Turturro off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Turturro seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Turturro pulls Esteves in to control the position. That's nine minutes gone in the round. Turturro is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. Esteves trying to control the position but Turturro manages to sink in the hooks. I really don't envy Esteves right now.

That's ten minutes gone in the round. Turturro is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Turturro has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. This is a sustained period of stalling by Turturro. You can see the frustration on Esteves's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Turturro controlling the position well here. Esteves rolled but Turturro kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Esteves tries to escape but Turturro has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Turturro is riding his opponent, not letting Esteves buck him off. Esteves trying to control the position but Turturro manages to sink in the hooks. Esteves is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Turturro's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. It looks like he's just sitting there. Esteves wants to take a breather but Turturro is having none of it. Esteves is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Turturro wants to control but Esteves is keeping busy.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Esteves tries to pass to full mount but Turturro defends it.
And that's the end of the fight! Turturro takes the fight on points by 17 to 4. Giuseppe Turturro decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. |
